Page 16 • The HERALD • 24th April 2025 v SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES v You may not know it, but Ashurst Train Station is now maintained by the New Forest Community Rail Partnership, working with the Ashurst & Colbury Community Group. eir plans to brighten up the station have already included lots of colourful planting, fresh paint, and welcome boards, but they had a bigger idea. Originally planned as a large mural to cover the station house’s snaking walls, damp problems made the idea unworkable. However, modern printing techniques o ered a solution – a 1.5m tall by 16.5m wide image that could be erected on the fencing. I was commissioned to create the artwork, which reaches from the age of steam to the modern day, with nods to the passing decades in-between. It’s packed full of New Forest ora and fauna too – everything from wild garlic to muntjac nds a space, and there was plenty of it to ll on such a colossal canvas. The children of Foxhills schools got involved too, making welcome suggestions for additions. e artwork was funded by CrossCountry Trains and is free to view – you might even consider using it as an excuse to take a day trip!
