In this respect the group collaborates with local Waterside “Arts” organisation Culture in Common who recently assisted with the funding of a highly successful art workshop. As well as the Waterside Art Group’s weekly meetings, their next event will be a review of attendees’ paintings and drawings by local professional artist and tutor John Edwards. is will be on Tuesday 13th May, 7.30pm, in Hythe and Dibden Community Centre. e review should be of interest to everybody who participates in or appreciates art. As part of the group’s mission to make art accessible to all, anybody who wishes to take along a picture for John to review will be most welcome. You can be assured that John will always highlight the better aspects of a painting or drawing as well as suggesting opportunities for improvement. As always, everybody will be warmly welcomed for the fee of £5. Full information about this sociable, welcoming art group as well as their programme of events can be found on the group’s website: www. watersideartgroup.co.uk. Alternatively, contact: secretary@watersideartgroup.co.uk A painting that may be reviewed by John Edwards Potential new members are always welcome to go along to their Tuesday painting evenings at 7pm for free to “try them out” for a few weeks prior to joining. e Waterside Art Group meets at Hythe and Dibden Community Centre situated in Brintons Lane o Jones Road in Hythe SO45 6DR. Hythe and Dibden Community Centre News from Hythe & Dibden Community Association Having completed the ‘Briefings’ about the local ‘membership’ groups that meet at the Community Centre in previous issues, we’re moving onto ‘Updates’ to the building. As mentioned at the end of last year, Hall 2’s lights were converted to LED panels, that are both brighter and more energy e cient than the old lights. Now we’ve done the same for Hall 1 - with a bit of a di erence – ‘colour’ options. We’ve installed lights that can be switched between the 2000k (warm yellow), 4000k (normal) and 6000k (daylight) bandwidths as di erent groups have expressed a desire for di erent lighting types. For example, art groups like the ‘daylight’ so they can see their paint colours as they’d more naturally appear but most groups just prefer the ‘normal’ colour as it’s what they’re used to. Another change is that, in conjunction with ‘Culture In Common’ we have installed the rst (of two) rails for hanging paintings made (and sold) by local ‘amateur’ artists. Up to four paintings can be displayed at a time with more possible when the second rail is installed. We hope that this will give a small push towards meeting the Arts Council’s concern about the Waterside having a ‘dearth of exhibition space’ plus give our visitors something pretty to look at and maybe even encourage them to join one of the four art groups currently meeting at the Community Centre.
