Countback calculations were required to decide 2nd to 4th places in Division 2, but there was no doubting the winner, John Ireland coming in comfortably 3 strokes ahead of the eld. In Division 1, Roy Nelson also nished well ahead to win with nett 70 – an excellent score in what were quite tough conditions. Division 1: 1st Roy Nelson – nett 70, 2nd Steve Lupton – nett 72, 3rd Phil Walker – nett 73, 4th Chris Hughes – nett 74. Division 2: 1st John Ireland – nett Medal winners (Left to Right) Roy Nelson and John Ireland Fawley Rugby Club held two events this season to raise much needed funds for local charities. e rst event was a music night in association with local band Hinterland who generously gave up their evening and also donated £250 to the good causes. e second was their annual charity rugby match which has been held since 2002 in memory of former member Pete Legate who sadly died whilst climbing Mount Everest and has since always contributed annually to local charities. In addition to a generous food bank collection, the club raised £1500 and cheques were presented to both the Waterside Foodbank for £500 and e Crossings Drop-in Centre for £1000 both supporting vulnerable people within the Waterside area. At that time, eighteen pairs played in three divisions to decide who would go through to the quarter nals. ese matches were completed in record time with the quarter and semi- nals held before the end of March. is le Steve Duckett and Steve Waterman facing Dave Jones and Robin Swanston in the nal on 1st April. e close fought match was all square going down the 17th fairway when Dave and Robin pulled out all the stops, taking those last 2 holes to win the Winter League trophy. Brockenhurst Bowling Club is holding its annual Open Day on Saturday 26th April, 10am-4pm. ey are keen to encourage people to try their hand at playing lawn bowls, which genuinely is a sport for all ages. A selection of bowls and a helping hand will be provided on the day: you just need to dress comfortably and bring atsoled shoes to wear on the green. e club is at the far end of the car park in Brookley Road, opposite Tesco - look for their big green sign, walk in, give your details at the clubhouse and you’ll be ready to have a go.
