New Forest National Park NHS Wellbeing fellows Dr Laura Pridmore and Dr Jennifer Wyllie have spent time engaging with Green Social Prescribing groups and activities in the New Forest (Credit: New Forest National Park Authority) also to transform an NHS site at Tatchbury Mount through conservation work, which they hope will encourage a shi in day-to-day use by workers and visitors who can use the outdoor space. e NHS acknowledges evidence that time spent in natural environments can reduce stress, fatigue, anxiety, and depression, as well as boost immune systems, encourage physical activity, and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases. alongside Hampshire County Council. eir fellowships began at the end of summer 2024 with the aim to promote Green Social Prescribing in the New Forest to health professionals, Social Prescribing Link Workers, and people who may bene t through talks, networking, and other projects. ey are also increasing the presence of the Green Health Hub (www.greenhealthhub.org.uk/) - a website signposting health professionals and the public to nature activities in the New Forest National Park and surrounding areas. ey have commented on Green Social Prescribing’s potential to help reduce demand on the NHS and mental health services thanks to its potential role as a strategy that works as an alternative to or in addition to medication and treatment in clinical settings. Work is now underway to establish a group based at the New Forest Heritage Centre in Lyndhurst, and At its core, Green Social Prescribing builds on the fact that access to green and blue spaces like those abundant in the New Forest comes with huge wellbeing rewards that anybody can bene t from. A recent study showed that the New Forest National Park provides £27m each year in avoided healthcare costs - equivalent to the salary of 999 nurses. e study was completed by their rst New Forest National Park NHS Wellbeing Fellow, Dr James Alden. Now, the latest National Park NHS Wellbeing Fellows, doctors Laura Pridmore and Jennifer Wyllie, have reached the six-month point of their fellowships, delivered in partnership by the New Forest National Park Authority STOMA SUPPORT Waterside Stoma Support meets at St Andrew’s Church, Dibden Purlieu every other month.
