Fawley RFC Celebrate String Of Successes by Rachel Clark e 1st XV have been on a winning streak including winning their nal match of the season against Hook and Odiham with a decisive win of 12:45, nishing in a respectable 3rd place in their league. Not to be outdone, the 2nd XV are mirroring this having won their last 5 matches. e growth of the senior section having made it possible to get a second team out. Some have been from returning players and some from Colts moving on to play Seniors. Ed White of the U16’s played his rst game for Bath Academy, having been part of the DPP Academy for the past 2 seasons. Ed tackled and carried brilliantly and Bath were victorious over Northampton 19-17. The U16’s played their first 7’s tournament at US Portsmouth. It was the rst time they had played 7’s and it please drop in any time between 2pm and 4pm ( at shoes required, we provide the bowls). ere are also fun activities planned for non-bowlers if you would like to join us. Visit our website at: www. watersidebowls.co.uk or email: janetballard1@btinternet.com If you would like to join us for our fun bowling competition in the afternoon please arrive by 1.30pm in at shoes or if you would like to have a go at bowling Ladies and Seniors In glorious sunshine on Wednesday 9th April, this year’s spring event between New Forest Golf Club Seniors and Ladies sections hosted by the Ladies, took the form of mixed foursomes played o the red tees. e nine pairs competing had a great time with husband and wife team Loraine and Roy Nelson winning with a highly creditable nett 68, one ahead of Dave Jones and Ann Spurrett. Results: 1st – Loz Nelson & Roy Nelson nett 68, 2nd – Ann Spurrett & Dave Jones nett 69, 3rd – Sue Kilford & John Pickering nett 71. (Left to Right) Roy Nelson & Loraine Nelson was a resounding success with 6 games played and 6 won. Followed up with a tour to Bude, playing Bude and Lytchett Minster. e U14 won the Hampshire Vase nal, winning their game against Ellingham and Ringwood 24-7 a er a well fought semi- nal against Basingstoke. The U9’s hosted their first ever tournament and it went fantastically well. Due to high attendance 2 teams were put out, Fawley Reds and Fawley Blues. Both teams played well displaying excellent sportsmanship. e coaches and team manager were extremely proud of them. Fawley RFC always welcome new players of any age and experience; men, women, girls and boys. Sages, Onion and Stuffing Trophies Seniors Triple Trophy Day On Tuesday 22nd April bright sunshine warmed the course as 41 New Forest Golf Club Seniors embarked on this trio of trophies stableford competition. Eligibility for each trophy depends on age with the Sages Trophy being for those age 70-79, the Onion Cup for the under 70s and the Stu ng Plaque 80+. Countback calculations were required to determine that Alan Milburn won the Sages Trophy with 34 points. Ian Coundon also with 34 points won the Onion Cup, while Mike Wharton stormed ahead to win the Stu ng Plaque with a magni cent 37 points. Nearest the pin on the 2nd was won by Robin Swanston. Sages Trophy: 1st Alan Milburn 34pts (back 9=20), 2nd Mike Stevenson 34pts (back 9=15), 3rd Dave Barrett 33 pts (back 9=18). Commiserations to Mike Broom 33 pts (back 9=16). (Left to right) Alan Milburn, Mike Wharton and Ian Coundon 3rd Recreational Mid-Week Fishing Trip On ursday 10th April Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held a recreational mid-week shing trip aboard ‘Ocean Runner’ skippered by Ryan Jones out of Poole. 10 Anglers set o primarily shing for bream and plaice. First mark took them to Christchurch Ledge looking for bream. With the anchor down, lines went in and the rst sh to be caught was a pollack for Robin Lane and a bull-huss for Garry Young. Marc Duncan had a ballan wrasse before Nelson Phillips landed another pollack. ey then decided to do a couple of dri s for more pollack and Harry Gray landed one. e next move was to Southbourne Ledge again looking for bream. Here they caught a couple of small strap eels, pouting and dog sh but no bream!! ey up anchored and moved to the Patch again in search for bream. Finally, they had a few caught by Dave Price, Nelson, Mike Fox, Garry and the largest of 1lb 9oz by Marc. ey had a couple of small whiting. Dave also managed to catch a small plaice!! ey then moved to the Bar for plaice with Robin landing one. Ryan decided to have a couple of nal dri s inside the harbour looking for some plaice and Mike caught one. Whilst the shing wasn’t proli c, they still had 11 species on the boat, a good day out shing albeit rather cold on one side of the boat and some great banter as ever.
