To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, local author Michael Southgate has published a description of wartime life in Totton and its neighbourhood under the title ‘Keep Calm and Carry On!’ During almost six years of war, the ‘Home Front’ became a vital element in the extended struggle against a seemingly all-powerful enemy. Following Britain’s declaration of war against Nazi Germany and its allies in September 1939, the port of Southampton became a prime strategic target, so that people living in Totton and the Waterside also became vulnerable to attack from the air. e lives of civilians were in fact as much at risk as those of members of the armed forces. At a later stage in the con ict, Southampton, the New Forest and southern Hampshire played a key role in the build-up to an Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe and the eventual defeat of the Nazi regime in Germany. Priced at £7.50 (plus postage if required), the publication is available directly from the author please email: michaelsouthgate54@ gmail.com Keep Calm and Carry On HEALTHY HAVEN SUMMER OPEN AFTERNOON An invitation from the Healthy Haven Garden Team Come and join us at the Healthy Haven Garden on Saturday 7th June, 1pm–4pm, for an open a ernoon behind the Waterside Health Centre, Beaulieu Road, Hythe.
