With over 80 members, friends and family joining in the festivities it really was a day to remember. e a ernoon started with a short history of our Club by President Andy Woolley, thanking everyone who has helped us over the years, with a special mention to Esso for their continued support and encouragement. is was followed by our longest serving lady member, Min Topp alongside Chairman Janet Ballard, cutting the Anniversary cake. Min joined in the spirit of the day by dressing up in the old uniform the ladies used to wear... thank goodness those days have gone! Cllr Peter Armstrong, Cllr Alexa Carcas and Cllr Robert Green and Life Member Tony Pothecary joined us for the a ernoon along with Margaret Vaughn, the daughter and niece of two of the founder members of Esso Fawley Bowling Club in 1950. Indeed, Bill Johnson and her Uncle, Harry Nowell’s names are still on the original competition boards in the clubhouse. Tea and cake was enjoyed by all which was then followed by a fun game of bowls for the bowlers and quizzes and games for our socialites. Bowling is more than just a game; it’s a community, which was in abundance on our Anniversary Day. Led by Conductor Philip Lawson, the Romsey Singers will perform a varied music selection from Bruckner to Flanders and Swann, plus a John Rutter 80th birthday celebration.
