Across the New Forest, young people are struggling to nd somewhere safe to live. Many are leaving care at just 16 or 17, with no family to support them. Others are stuck sofa-sur ng in unsafe or unstable accommodation. It’s a hidden crisis, and one local charity is asking people across the Forest to help. Step by Step is looking for Supported Lodgings Hosts - everyday people with a spare room who can o er a young person a safe home and a bit of day-today support. Hosts aren’t expected to be parents or counsellors, just someone who listens and believes in them. “These young people are heroes in their own right,” says Debbie Moreton, CEO of Step by Step and a New Forest resident. “Like Superman had the Kents or Batman had Alfred, they just need someone who believes in them.” Hosts receive full training, 24/7 support, and a weekly allowance. You can be a family, a couple, single, retired Maddi or working - if you’ve got a spare room and a bit of time, you could make a life-changing di erence. Kaye, a local host, says: “The best part is seeing someone grow in confidence and take the next step in life.” Step by Step is especially keen to hear from people in Totton, Marchwood, Hythe, Dibden, Ashurst, Lyndhurst, Romsey, Calshot and surrounding villages.
