Our local butchers, Nigel and Matt Collins, from New Forest Bacon are keeping us stocked with a supersizzling selection of burgers, ribs, sausages (including gluten-free varieties), avoured chicken breasts, drumsticks, and some delicious avoured pork steaks too. If you prefer to live on the wild side and like game on your barbecue, New House Venison supplies us with a tasty variety of traditional venison sausages, wild boar sausages, meatballs, traditional venison burgers, and wild boar burgers. If you need to plan your barbecue ahead for any reason, don’t forget that you can always pre-order - just let us know by Tuesday morning and you’ll be able to pick up your order from midday ursday. Our meat packs are all individually priced, but throughout the summer they will be available for a summer special price of just £11 for any three packs. All our meat is suitable for home freezing, which makes the three-pack o er excellent value. Just the thing to round o a barbecue and for adding a summery burst with a light seasonal dessert, local berries are in store: strawberries, blueberries and raspberries - most are sourced just up the road from the New Forest Fruit Company in Beaulieu. We’re also delighted to tell you that our favourites, English cherries, have arrived from Kent, and will be closely followed by more from our supplier on the Isle of Wight. It wouldn’t be summer without them, and the Cornish new potato season is now in full swing, with more new potatoes sourced from Kent and Lincolnshire soon to follow. ese early varieties are smaller and more tender than the main crop, and are an excellent source of vitamin C. ey are best cooked with the skins on to preserve their avour, so are low maintenance. Simply give them a quick wash, with no scrubbing, steam or boil them until so , then serve with lashings of butter and a sprig of mint. Simply delicious. Towards the end of July, we should start to see the rst arrivals of sweetcorn from our friends on the Isle of Wight. ese yellow ears of goodness are loved by adults and children alike. Easy to prepare, they are quickly transformed into a super-tasty treat – simply place in a saucepan of boiling water for 5 - 10 minutes. Alternatively, wrap in foil and place on the barbecue. Once cooked, lather the corn with some Isle of Wight Garlic Farm butter, which is a mouthwatering combination of smooth creamy butter, crushed garlic cloves, herbs, and black pepper.
