Termed a Lynsome (a er Lyndhurst), this consists of a combination of strokeplay and matchplay whereby competitors play an eighteen hole strokeplay round on the course, then using their scorecard, play knockout matchplay in the clubhouse against drawn opponents until an eventual winner emerges. e weather was initially rather dull and damp, but this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors. Back in the clubhouse the virtual match went on for 6 rounds with Dave Barrett and Martin Ranger eventually facing each other in the nal. Despite conceding 10 shots to Dave, Martin emerged clear winner of the Peter Swann Trophy. Steve Duckett won nearest the pin in 2 on the 18th, his drive almost reaching the green and second shot stopping just 2 feet away from the pin. Results: 1st Martin Ranger, 2nd Dave Barrett, Losing semi- nalists Ross Matthews and Alan Milburn. Martin Ranger with the Peter Swann Trophy Parkrun Takeover For Hardley Runners On the longest and hottest day of 2025, 30 Hardley Runners volunteers took part in another Parkrun takeover! A Parkrun takeover occurs when running clubs assist at a local Parkrun by stepping into the various volunteer roles required for the event to take place each week. It was Bartley Parkrun’s 177th event and their rst opportunity to o er pacemakers! Hardley’s volunteers provided pacing to suit nearly all abilities of runners and certainly challenged themselves to stick to a pace without getting caught up in race-day adrenaline. is Parkrun was also a perfect opportunity to introduce Hardley’s latest graduates from the beginners’ course to fellow members of the club, while giving them the chance to push their new skills and even achieve PBs! is year’s course was led by Hardley’s run leaders Danii and Julie, who ran a 10-week program based on a “Couch to 5K” style plan. e course o ers encouragement and guidance to those wanting to start or return to running. All in all, it was a great success - 160 nishers and fantastic feedback on all the volunteers, especially the pacemakers. e 21st June was a true representation of everything Hardley Runners takes pride in: community spirit, teamwork, and pure enjoyment in running. Despite the driving rain, some good scores were achieved with the rst four in Division 2 all scoring nett 71, Dave Titchmarsh just edging ahead of Mike Broom on countback. In Division 1 though, Mike Ahearn emerged head and shoulders above the competition with a magni cent nett 63 to win the Brian Randall Cup. Division 1: 1st Mike Ahearn – 63 nett, 2nd Andy Godwin – 68 nett, 3rd Robin Swanston – 69 nett (back 9=30). Commiserations to Ross Matthews also with nett 69 but 34 on the back 9. Division 2: 1st Dave Titchmarsh – 71 nett (back 9=34, back 6=20), 2nd Mike Broom – 71 nett (back 9=34, back 6=21), 3rd John Holland – 71 nett (back Mike Ahearn with the Brian Randall Cup 9=35). Commiserations to Mike Wharton also with nett 71 but 37 on the back 9. Nearest the pin in 2 on 18 was Andy Godwin. 5th Large Boat Competition Report and photos sent in by Marc Duncan Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held its 5th Large Boat competition on Sunday 15th June from Mudeford aboard Blue Strike Charters skippered by Dan James. Initially we ventured out to the banks in search of bass. First dri saw Glynn Barker catch one. A few more dri s saw Marc Duncan hook into a decent sh which he only managed to get to the surface before it broke his line. We then moved to deeper water for tope. Pete Chamberlain caught 2 with the largest weighing 12lb 3oz, and more tope were caught by Marc, Dave Wood and Roland Blom eld. With the wind freshening we moved to the Ledge in search of bream and pouting. Roy Evans had 4 bream with Dave catching a treble shot of pouting. We then had a dri for pollack but were unsuccessful. Final dri s saw us o Southbourne for plaice and gurnard. Roland managed to land 2 plaice and a tub gurnard with Jane also having a plaice. Results: 1st Roland Blomfield 86 points, 2nd Pete Chamberlain 83 points, 3rd Jane Hopkins 58 points, 4th Dave Wood 46 points, 5th Roy Evans 35 points, 6th Marc Duncan 28 points. Dave Pete
