Residents at a New Forest care home were able to indulge in some of the nest chocolate - thanks to a leading local chocolatier. To mark the recent World Chocolate Day, sta at Woodpeckers, a Colten Care home in Brockenhurst, organised for Miss Witt to give a talk about everyone’s favourite treat. She explained where chocolate comes from before demonstrating her skills in the confectioner’s art. Residents were invited to try their hand at the specialist technique of tempering chocolate and they were keen to get stuck in. Manager Stuart King was dressed at Willy Wonka and the companion team’s Jo Anderson was an Oompa Loompa – and there was even a golden ticket to be won. Stuart said: “It was a superb day and we all learned a great deal about chocolate – but perhaps more importantly our residents were able to sample some fine creations made from it. We are all surprised to learn what variety there is – including white, milk and dark varieties. Our residents eagerly sampled a variety of choclates, each bite met with smiles and appreciation of the carefully crafted creations made from exceptional, high quality ingredients. They agreed there is nothing quite like the taste of good quality chocolate to brighten up your day; they can’t wait for Miss Witt to return and host a chocolate-making workshop so they can craft their own chocolates.” World Chocolate Day is an annual celebration of chocolate, which some link with the anniversary of the introduction of chocolate to Europe in 1550.
