One of the services that they provide is Pulmonary Rehabilitation, which is a group exercise and respiratory education programme. Each patient group runs twice a week for a 6-week duration in community halls. is is a continuous programme that caters to the growing population of adults living with respiratory disease. Pulmonary Rehabilitation is proven to help people have a better quality of life by managing breathlessness, feeling more in control of experiences, and having con dence in being more active in day-today activities. Information on looking a er your body and lungs, and advice on managing your condition and symptoms, including feeling short of breath. e Service has been redesigning the exercise section of their programme to improve outcomes for patients. ey have always been able to prescribe hand weights for people joining their classes to build their upper body strength, but until now have been unable to prescribe lower leg weights due to limited funds available for new equipment. ey are therefore incredibly grateful to the kind generosity of the Hythe Hospital League of Friends for funding £1200 to buy some of the ankle weights needed to make this all a reality in the Waterside! “The support from Hythe Hospital League of Friends is immensely valuable in enabling our service to expand what we are currently able to offer, and help our patients to now exercise their legs in a more challenging way.” Alaine Brooks, Service Lead. e sta have now received training on the updated exercises, ready to use these fantastic ankle weights with their patients.
