Minstead Lodge is the headquarters of Minstead Trust which is a regional well-established charity supporting adults with learning disabilities which has a tradition of social enterprise using the talents of the supported adults from the Wessex area. So, it was the perfect opportunity for the special guest, the incoming District Governor Richard Burnett to see some of the workshops in action and learn about the apprentice schemes in operation. Of particular interest was the Real Jam & Chutney Company workshop. is is a new state of the art food production unit built and operated to a very high hygiene standard, utilising some of the garden produce from the award-winning fruit and vegetable garden areas. e following a ernoon tea, of fresh scones, sandwiches and cakes, was delicious; and as always served with perfect attention to the best standards of hospitality. ere was then a short break and Emma Borbely-Bartis, Head of day opportunities, gave everyone an insight as to the next major project - e Haven. is is a new area for therapeutic e ects of animal care, where people will have a chance to heal a er trauma, take on responsibility and learn new skills. is will enable them to feel proud of what they can achieve as they care for donkeys, sheep, pigs and many other animals. is is a new Minstead Trust fully costed project with a donation funding target set at £15,000, and New Forest Rotary feel privileged to be able to be involved at this early stage. When new projects are starting up on the cusp of Rotary years, there may be some discontinuity over projects but in this case, it was the very opposite as both outgoing President Ian and incoming President Rosemarie wished to be associated with this project. e guests were accompanied by Lesley Brooks, Supporter Relations and Legacy Champion, to the new area set aside for the project and meet some of the goats already there. President Ian was able to present Lesley with a donation of £500 and incoming President Rosemarie was able to gather information on the project which was subsequently matched with another £500 as her rst action on becoming president. e club now has a combined donation of £1000 and a shopping list for project start up materials from Minstead Trust for e Haven Project.
