Residents at Denmead Grange were pleasantly surprised to see animals such as donkeys, geese, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and rabbits roaming around their garden as Mill Cottage Farm experience paid a visit. General Manager Abbie Johnston said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today. We knew that having the farm here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus. We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.” Resident Joan was very excited and touched by the Farm’s animals: “As a child I used to love all the animals on the nearby farm. Today was very enjoyable and it was wonderful that the animals were free to roam amongst us.” e farm also conducted room visits to the residents who could not come outside, this meant one of their lovely ladies who used to be a Sheep Farmer was able to have a one to one visit in her room. Her daughter said: “Thank you so much for making Mum so happy today. Her smile when the lamb arrived in her room was a beautiful moment” Denmead Grange care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals.
