Austin A30/A35 Owners Club Southampton and New Forest (but most members do not have an A30/A35) from Austin A30/A35 Owners Club Southampton and New Forest “Cantankerous” is the operative word at this point of this wonderful sunny summer. No, one is not referring to the members this time but 2 of the members cars. e club had a “bring your car along”, which took place in the car park of Netley Marsh Community Hall on ursday 14th August. A good turnout of approx 15 vehicles. As predicted in the previous Herald, the bonnets came up and had a chat about the last time you hit it with a hammer. John Cleese style. Well, the hammer nearly came out, but cups of tea and co ee soon sorted the problems of running older vehicles. e 1930 Willys Whippet would not start again a er arriving, a er some contemplation via the committee, with the aid of suitable lubrication, one old spark suggested checking the fuel gauge. Hence a special length of carved wood was produced from the boot, dipped into the tank... aah... dipped again just to check the function of the high tech wooden fuel gauge... aah... no petrol was registered on the wood... plastic canister of fuel was carried just in case... topped up... jumped the battery and a er a few splutters burst into action… sorted. However, the Austin then decided to join the “cantankerous” club. Having successfully arrived it decided not to start, then it started, then jump leads were needed, then was all ok... but was a battle to travel the mile back home. Hence besides having a good natter, 2 members provided the optional entertainment but no hammer. Don’t have a A30/35? no problem, just 2 of the cars were of the genre and the 12 others included 2006 BMW, 2003 Mini Cooper, 1950 Landrover, Austin 7 and TR6 - a good variety. e Club meet on the second Thursday of the month, 7.15pm for 7.30pm at Netley Marsh Community Hall, Woodlands Road, Netley Marsh, SO40 7GE.
