30th October 2025 • The HERALD • Page 37 POPPIES FOR REMEMBRANCE is year Lepe Country Park is celebrating the November Remembrance period with a special display in the sensory garden, which will be decorated with poppies knitted and donated by the caring public. Lepe was a signi cant embarkation point for military personnel on 6th June 1940. So many of our brave young men le these shores, never to return, that it is a tting tribute to mark this time. e display, which has been put together by the Friends of Lepe volunteers, will be on show for 2-3 weeks. Sunday 9th November, 10am, Annual Remembrance Service and Act of Remembrance ending with the 2 minutes silence at Beaulieu Abbey Church. Sunday 9th November, 3pm, Act of Remembrance at St Paul’s Church in East Boldre. Tuesday 11th November, 10.45am, Act of Remembrance, at St Katharine’s Church in Exbury. Beaulieu Abbey Church will be holding a ‘Come and Sing Fauré for Remembrance’ on Saturday 8th November. This special concert of Fauré’s Requiem o ers a unique opportunity to re ect and remember through the power of music and words. Come and Sing Fauré for Remembrance Remembrance Services in the Parish of Beaulieu, Exbury and East Boldre On Sunday 9th November, all are invited to join the Remembrance Service at St John’s Church in Hythe at 10.30am. Due to the large numbers expected at this service, there will also be an over ow congregation in St John’s Hall and they plan to relay the service outside as well. ere will then be a parade from the Church to the memorial in Prospect Place for a short outdoor service. Remembrance Service in the Parish of Hythe As a local parish of the Church of England, the Parish of Dibden are inviting local uniformed organisations and parish councillors to attend their Remembrance Services on Sunday 9th November, members of the public are welcome to attend. 10.30am at St Andrew’s Church, Dibden Purlieu – an All Age Remembrance Service, including a poppy cra for children. 10.45am at All Saints’ Church, Dibden – a Remembrance Service, including an Act of Remembrance at the Lych-Gate War Memorial. 12noon at Hythe War Memorial Hospital – a short Service of Remembrance at the Hospital. Remembrance Services in the Parish of Dibden On Tuesday 11th November e Lordshill and Lordswood Historical Society will be holding a Service of Remembrance at Hollybrook Cemetery, Tremona Road, Coxford at 11am for those who wish to attend. On Thursday 13th November Alan House will give a talk about Women in the Remembrance Service and Women in the Fire Service Fire Service. e Society meet on the second Thursday of the month from 10.30am to12noon in the lounge of Manston Court, Lordshill, Southampton SO16 8HF. No membership fees, just £2 on the door which includes tea/co ee and biscuits. ere will also be a ra e. Any further information contact Chairman Bryan Norton on: 07866 348032. e rehearsal for singers will be at 2pm and the concert, which will include war poems and readings, starts at 6pm with doors opening at 5.15pm. ere will be an interval for singers between the rehearsal and the performance when tea and biscuits will be available. The conductor is Chris Burton who is Director of Music at Walhampton School, having previously been Assistant Director of Music at Pilgrims’ School in Winchester. Chris is also the Choral Director (Engagement) at Winchester Cathedral and leads large scale singing concerts as well as the Cathedral Junior Choir. e accompanist is Mike Noble who is currently organist at Beaulieu Abbey Church. He was organist at St John’s Church, Hythe for many years, plays at churches across the forest and has accompanied many Come and Sing events at Beaulieu in the past. The two soloists are Emily Christian and Steve Dean and Alexander Cowie will be reading the war poems.
