Beloved activities coordinator at Knights’ Grove Bupa Care Home, Violeta Iuliana Gimiga, known to everyone as Julia, and engaged to marry Lucian, who also works at the home as a senior care assistant, thought she was heading into a quiet a ernoon of activities with the residents. Instead, she walked into a garden decked out with balloons, bunting, and beaming residents ready to celebrate her upcoming wedding. e party was secretly orchestrated by Rosie, fellow activities co-ordinator and close friend, with the entire Knights’ Grove team rallying behind the scenes. Everyone including the home manager, admin sta , kitchen crew, housekeeping, and residents played a part in keeping Julia blissfully unaware of the celebrations. Julia commented: “I was called into the office to help with some admin after lunch, meanwhile, the team were decorating the garden! When Rosie led me outside, I saw all the residents and relatives gathered, but it wasn’t until I spotted the ‘Bride to Be’ balloons that I realised what was happening. I immediately started crying, it was so emotional, and for once, I was speechless!” Residents shared heartfelt wishes with Julia, including Lily, who recently celebrated her 73rd wedding anniversary. Resident Lily said: “You’ll definitely be a beautiful bride! I just hope you’re as happy as I was with my Jim.” Resident’s relatives were also invited to the hen do. Paula, the daughter of one resident, said: ‘’Julia, I wish you all the happiness in the world, this is for you to see how much you are appreciated for everything you do for the residents, and especially for my mum. You will make a beautiful bride. Don’t forget to spend time with your family as much as you can, it’s very important!’’ Julia and Lucian, who have worked at Knights’ Grove for four and ve years respectively, have since tied the knot in their home country of Romania. e couple celebrated with both civil and church ceremonies, followed by a reception with 110 guests.
