Tony O’Connor ‘Top DOG’ 21st October Dibden Open Golf Society (DOGS) Results 28th October winners Pam James and J Stoker 28th October 2nd place: T O’Connor, D Ferguson and P Mortimer 28th October 3rd place: G Tourle, D McManus, P Huxley TROPHY WINNERS VASE AND THE REG LITTLE CUP On Tuesday 21st October 42 New Forest Golf Club Seniors turned up in showery conditions for the Trophy Winners Vase and the Reg Little Cup, both played o the white tees. e Trophy Winners Vase, a strokeplay competition, was contested for by anyone who had won a trophy or monthly medal in the previous year and the Reg Little Cup, a Stableford format, for those whose luck may have deserted them during the trophy matches. Overnight rain had lled a few of the bunkers but it was decided to leave them in play with the appropriate relief being taken as necessary. A few golfers struggled on the day but overall the standard of golf was high. e Trophy Winners Vase was won quite comfortably by Terry Gordon who signed for a Nett 65 whilst the Reg Little Cup, won by Terry Jones was a much tighter Terry Gordon with the Trophy Winners Vase Terry Jones with the Reg Little Cup a air with only one point separating the top four players. e countback on the back nine proved decisive and in the end the clear winner emerged. MARK HOOPER MEMORIAL TROPHY 47 fun-loving seniors from New Forest Golf Club teed it up in blustery conditions on Tuesday 28th October for the Mark Hooper Memorial Trophy. Mark Hooper was a man who wanted the fun to stay in golf and he was known for his putting from the tee on the 13th. In that spirit, this competition required all players to use their putter for that tee shot. e whole match was played with good humour and smiles on faces especially as the cards weren’t being submitted for handicap adjustments. Division 1 was won by Roy Nelson who seemingly could not miss a putt on the day and congratulations must go to Jon Shore for winning a trophy in his rst ever competitive match a er receiving his handicap. Division Two: 1st Jon Shore 40 points Mark Hooper Memorial Trophy winner, 2nd Pete Reed 37 points, 3rd Brian Roberts 36 points, 4th John Pickering 35 points. 11th Club Shore Competition On Saturday 18th October Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held its 11th club shore competition. is was a changed venue because the weather was very bad and with a strong southeasterly wind and rain it would have been very dangerous to sh at Friars Cli so the competition was changed to a rover instead. 8 club members signed on and 7 weighed in sh consisting of dog sh, pouting and bass. On these competitions undersize sh count for points which were bass, pouting and sole. Once the sh are weighed and measured, they are returned to the sea as quickly as possible. A total of 19 sh were weighed for a total weight of 28lbs 3oz. Best round sh of the evening was a bass of 4lb 7oz caught by Malcolm Stote 2nd best specimen sh was a dog sh of 2lb caught by Roland Blomfield. Top junior was Seth Hopkins with a total weight of 3lb 8.4oz. Results: 1st Malcolm Stote 14lbs 15oz Seth Hopkins with bass of 3lb 3oz and 55 points, 2nd Roland Blomfield 5lb 1oz and 70 points, 3rd Seth Hopkins (jnr) 3lb 8.4oz and 55 points, 4th Summer Monckton 2lb 15oz and 50 points, 5th Steve Monckton 1lb 2oz and 35 points, 6th Bruce Samber 0lb 5½oz and 30 points, 7th Andy Hopkins 0lb 4.2oz and 35 points, Pete Tomkins 0lb 0oz but 25 points.
