An extremely interesting and well presented meeting illustrated just how little we knew about electric cars and how quickly technology was developing to overcome some of the di culties associated with them. e winning score was 12 out of 20, just about a pass mark! e quiz can be found on our Facebook page. We set our members the task of coming up with some ideas for eco friendly Christmas presents. As you might expect, a lot of the suggestions centred around recycling and shopping locally. In fact, given the number of charity shops in the area the two can be combined. Interestingly, a number of people reported that their children/grandchildren didn’t mind being given clothes from charity shops, and if it’s books then it doesn’t really matter, and toys are o en like new anyway. And nally, in the week that a global review, reported in the Lancet Child and Adolescent Health Journal, concluded that high blood pressure in children has nearly doubled because of unhealthy diets, mass inactivity and soaring levels of obesity, good news comes in the shape of Gang Warily Junior Parkrun’s rst birthday. Congratulations to the event co-directors Phil Pearce and David Sweeting and their army of 124 volunteers, and thanks to Fawley Parish Council for their support. During the year at their 46 events, 490 children have completed 2,300 runs, including 534 personal best times. It’s fun, free and friendly, open to children from 4 to 14 (and accompanying adults as long as they don’t cross the nish line!). Details from the parkrun.org.uk website.
