It is always a boost to know that our efforts are appreciated by local people.” H&W Rotarians and friends litter picking in Hythe Nature Can Spark New Ideas, Says Waterside Art Group Waterside Art Group welcomes artists of all levels, from beginners discovering their style to artists who already have lots of experience. It’s a friendly and creative community of amateur artists who share a love of painting and drawing. A key purpose of the Group is to provide an accessible and encouraging space to connect with others and enjoy making art, and – through regular sessions and shared creativity – it aims to nurture artistic expression. Elaine, the newest of the Group’s members, explains: “I’m glad I found Waterside Art Group. I feel comfortable with everyone here; there’s a relaxed atmosphere, with no pressure to do something in a certain way, and we can experiment and ask other members’ opinions if we want to. I’ve also learned a lot from the demonstration in October and the soft pastels workshop in November, both of which were led by amazing professional artists.” Based alongside the beautiful landscapes of the New Forest National Park, it’s no surprise that some of the Group’s members nd inspiration in the natural world. e iconic New Forest ponies and donkeys, for example, make especially characterful subjects. “Nature has always been my muse,” says Elaine. “When I’m out in the Forest, for example, I feel connected to the landscape. It inspires me and often sparks new ideas.” Waterside Art Group meets on Tuesday evenings, 7pm to 9pm, at Hythe Artwork by Elaine, a Waterside Art Group member and Dibden Community Centre in Brinton Lane, o Jones Lane, Hythe SO45 6DU. Membership of this supportive group costs just £65 a year, which gives members the chance to attend weekly meetings and to show and sell their artwork at the summer exhibition. Or, for those not wanting to commit to a whole year, they can attend occasional meetings as a non-member for £5 a session (but they won’t have the option to enter the exhibition).
