Participants in the dip arrived from 9.30am for registration, where they were provided with a wristband and o cially signed into the event. A safety brie ng took place at 10.15am before the participants entered the water at 10.30am. Safety cover was provided by Calshot Divers and thirdparty support was also on site to provide rst aid cover. Once the brave souls had dried o and signed out of the event, they joined Calshot RNLI crew in the station for a selection of hot drinks and sweet and savoury treats. On the event, Calshot RNLI boat crew and event organiser Sean Marsh said: “We are delighted that so many people came out to support this event, it sets a solid base for us to grow the event in future years. Participant safety was of paramount importance; we had a dedicated dip area along with closely monitoring the sign in and out process for all taking part in the event. We’d also like to express our thanks to John Greenwood and the team at Calshot Divers for providing the safety boat for the event.” Calshot Lifeboat Operations Manager, Graham Reeve added: “For several years we have run a Brew With The Crew event on New Year’s Day. Combining this event with a dip in the water generated a lot of interest and we are delighted with how many people participated and came to support. As a charity we are reliant on donations and all the money raised will go directly to ensuring we can continue to save lives at sea and serve our local community. We raised over £1,000 from today’s event and want to thank everyone for their support and generosity.” Calshot RNLI’s first annual New Year’s Day Dip getting underway (Credit: RNLI/James Silsbury) Hythe 2000’s IT 4 ALL group run sessions on Mondays 1.30pm–3.30pm in St John’s Hall, Hythe. e lovely volunteers will try to help you with your technology challenges; from laptops to tablets to mobile phones they’re happy to share their knowledge. e cost of sessions is just £4 and a tea break and cake £1.50 at 2.30pm helps wash away your worries.
