In a remarkable coincidence, Mitchell McPhee, alongside 10 other apprentices, joined the petrochemical complex on the very same day his father, Andy McPhee, was celebrating 40 years in service. Andy started his journey at the site in 1985 as an apprentice pipe tter and has since rotated through various roles, gaining valuable experience and building relationships that have lasted a lifetime. Today, he works as a job leader, overseeing installations and ensuring the safe execution of projects across the 3,250-acre complex. Andy’s long-standing career has undoubtedly inspired Mitchell, who developed a passion for engineering during his studies at Brockenhurst College. Choosing to pursue a three-year Advanced Maintenance Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 3) in Instrumentation, he will combine theoretical studies at Southampton College with practical experience at Fawley. “This apprenticeship has opened the door to the chance of a long career with many opportunities, and I’m enjoying having hands-on experience and developing Next Generation Apprentice Follows In Father’s Footsteps At Exxonmobil Fawley Andrew and Mitchell Mcphee my skills just like my Dad did before me,” said Mitchell. “I will always carry with me his advice, which is: ‘If you work hard and give it your best, you’ll be heading in the right direction.’ It’s advice I think about every day, and I’m excited to now be putting it into practice.” Re ecting on his career, Andy shared: “One of the proudest moments has been seeing my son Mitchell join the company.
