Together, they are performing Carter’s distinctive compositions, blending the lyricism of classic jazz with the energy and complexity of contemporary modern jazz. e band will play two evening shows: on Thursday 26th February at the Meridian Lounge Bar in Hythe (7.30pm–10pm), presented by New Forest Jazz and Arts, followed by a free-entry performance on Sunday 1st March at Good ings Café with the Southampton Modern Jazz Club. “I’ve got some exciting news for everyone on the South Coast,” Ben said. “My band and I are doing a tour of Southampton and Hythe. I’m very excited to finally bring my band from Birmingham down to my home town and hopefully many of you who supported the making of my album will now be able to come see the band play the music live.” As reported previously in e Herald, Ben who is originally from Hythe, began learning the saxophone aged nine and busked around Southampton and at local events such as Rock the Pier and raising money for charities including the Honeypot Children’s Charity. A er graduating in 2023, he released his debut album Pulsar, crowd-funded largely by supporters from the South Coast. A small group of passionate Family historians, who love helping those who are interested in tracing their family history meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the back room at Soul Café, North Road, Dibden Purlieu, SO45 4PG. ey are a mixture of those who have been researching for years and those who are new to the fascinating world of family history. ere is so much more New Forest/Waterside U3A members meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, at St Andrews Hall in Dibden Purlieu, starting at 2pm. Meetings nish at around 3.30pm, but everyone is invited to stay for tea and biscuits if they wish. e schedule of meetings for the rst few months of 2026, along with other information, is now available. In January, they greatly enjoyed hearing from two locally based speakers. Bryan Hurst, from Fawley Men’s Shed gave a talk on their origins, and brought along a number of beautiful pieces of woodwork for them to look at more closely. John Edwards, art tutor and artist, gave a demonstration and talked about John Constable. Members were fascinated at how an image can be quickly produced using just a few coloured chalks. On Tuesday 3rd March, representatives of Southern Water will give a talk on how to avoid water related problems at the domestic scale. On 17th March, they are hoping to hear from a representative of the Patient Champions. Special interest groups meet regularly, including skittles, embroidery, and gardening. ere are lunch dates, which are o en fully booked on the day they’re announced. ere is a group that meets to play boules on alternate ursday a ernoons, at the Old Mill, Hardley. is group intended to continue playing throughout the winter months, weather permitting. However, we have decided that a minimum temperature of 10 degrees is required to enjoy a game! e table tennis group, which plays fortnightly at Gang Warily, is actively seeking more players. e history group meets every month, and for the next few sessions, they shall be hearing about Kings and Queens, randomly chosen by individual members.
