It was very successful, and the feedback and discussions were useful for all the members and guests who attended. As the Art Group is keen to make art as accessible as possible to local people, events are usually open to everyone. For the spring and summer, the Group plans to have free outdoor (or ‘plein-air’) art sessions on Sunday 12th April and Sunday 14th June, starting at 2pm. Members and nonmembers can take their own materials and a seat to paint or draw at Prospect Place (or under cover at Hythe Marina if the weather is inclement). Many people nd being in a group helps them feel more confident about painting or drawing outdoors, which is something they might not otherwise try. On Saturday 16th May, there will be a workshop focusing on the basics of drawing using charcoal, then how to apply watercolour. e workshop is likely to be limited to 12 spaces, so members will have rst priority. e Group has also organised demonstrations by professional artists on Tuesday 21st April and Tuesday 14th July at Hythe and Dibden Community Centre. e rst will be by Ronnie Ireland showing his approaches to creating a self-portrait, and the second will be by Lynne Davies demonstrating her approach to painting a wild animal. Again members and nonmembers will be welcome. Both demos will start at 7pm (with a short break halfway, when the Centre’s café will be open) and entry will be £5 per person. So there’s a lot to look forward to at Waterside Art Group! e Group meets on Tuesday evenings, usually from 7pm to 9pm, at Hythe and Dibden Community Centre in Brinton Lane, Hythe SO45 6DU. Membership costs just £65 a year, which gives members the chance to attend weekly meetings and to show and sell their artwork at the summer exhibition. Why not go along on a Tuesday evening for a free “taster” session? For the artist why not enter the Pollinator Art Competition, with an exhibition in the classroom in the summer? If you are more skilled with poetry or prose, then get thinking – they will have an autumn evening to celebrate Pollinators through the written word! Details for both competitions will be on Lepe’s website and social media soon. ere will be 3 age groups for each competition, with prizes for the winners in each group. is is part of the ongoing commitment to pollinator awareness at Lepe, encouraging people to look at wildlife and celebrate what they love most about plants and bugs. e photo competition is open for Lepe’s 2027 calendar.
