He came 3rd in the M70/75 age group 100 metres and made the nal in the 200 metres with a seasons best time of 29.16 but was unable to improve upon this in a strong eld. He was part of the 4 x 100 relay team that came 3rd behind the host team Italy and Finland before gaining 2nd place in the 4 x 400 metre relay in a new British Masters age group record. Once again a strong Italian squad secured the Gold. Vic will now take a well earned rest from running before preparing for the European indoor championships to be held in Braga Portugal in March 2020. He would like to thank his coach Janet Smith and the team at Pure Physio based in Applemore Leisure Centre for their continued support and helping keep him in good shape. M70 4x100 relay team. Left to Right: David Spencer, Vic Novell, Bruce Hendrie and Albert Eland Lions Presents Boccia Equipment to Romsey Weekenders Club e Brendoncare Charity runs a Saturday morning Weekenders Club in the Age Concern Hall in Romsey organising a range of activities which will now include Boccia Games following the presentation of the equipment by the Romsey & Waterside Lions Club. Boccia is a ball sport which can be played on a recreational or competitive basis. It is similar to bowls and petanque and is contested at local, national and international levels and became a Paralympic Sport in 1984. e aim of the game is to throw or roll leather balls as close as possible to a white target ball called the Jack which is thrown or rolled rst. e balls can be rolled by hand, or if a competitor’s disability is severe using a ramp, or feet. Points are awarded according to the distance a ball is from the Jack, scores totted up, and the team or player with the most points is the winner. Boccia is a fun activity for all who participate, but for some with a sharp eye and a degree of skill a competitive game to be won. Romsey Lions were unable to match some of the participants skills. Lions Sandra Trowbridge, Roger Hunt and President Andrew Trowbridge are presenting the equipment to some of the members of the Weekenders Club. Tennis Holiday Camp is Back Following on from the success of Tennis Holiday Camp at Waterside Tennis Club during the school summer holidays, LTA Accredited Plus Coach Ola Osuch is running another during the Autumn half term. ere will be 5 consecutive days of tuition and practice from Monday 28th October to Friday 1st November from 10am until 1pm. e sessions will be held at Waterside Tennis Club’s centre at 179-181 Long Lane Holbury Southampton SO45 2PA, formerly the Waterside Sports & Social Club. e sessions are for 8-11 year olds. Lung disease doesn’t just a ect the lungs; it can have a huge e ect on day-to-day life too. ‘Easy Breathe’ is a respiratory support group and meets on the second Monday of the month at e Coates Centre, a friendly and welcoming drop-in centre set within the grounds of Oakhaven Hospice o Lower Pennington Lane, Lymington. e next ‘Easy Breathe’ takes place on Monday 11th November at 11am until 12.30pm. ‘Easy Breathe’ is for anyone a ected by or The Coates Centre caring for someone with a respiratory condition, o ering the opportunity to get together to share experiences, learn, chat and gain support over a cuppa and a slice of cake.
