Residents past and present celebrated with neighbours, reminiscing about life at the court over the past four decades with tea and cake. Councillor Alexis McEvoy joined residents to celebrate and said: “We had a wonderful afternoon and I enjoyed chatting to residents and hearing their stories. In particular it was good to meet some of the family of Charles Ley after whom the Court was named. I would to thank Jan, the Court Manager, and everyone involved in helping to ensure the celebration went well. With Jan leading the way, Charles Ley Court is a welcoming community and I look forward to the next celebratory event.” Councillor Derek Tipp, Vice-Chair of New Forest District Council, said: “It’s been marvellous to visit today, spend time with residents and hear all about the last 40 years at Charles Ley Court.” Jan has been a resident at Charles Ley Court for 17 years and said “We’ve loved seeing the changes at the court over the years – new windows, kitchens and bathrooms and the gardens have improved vastly! We enjoy living here, right on top of the New Forest and it is great being close to the sea.” Housing 21’s Charles Residents celebrate with guests (Left to Right) Councillor Alexis McEvoy, Court Manager Janice Dear, Councillor Derek Tipp, Charles Ley’s daughter Betty Locke and Retirement Housing Manager Susan Hanwell Ley Court was o cially opened in September 1979 by Councillor Alderson OBE, and was named a er the ‘local hero’ and founder member of the local British Legion; Charles Ley.
