It is always lovely to welcome new faces into their Foyer, for they are a warm friendly group who share with one another and support each other in any way they can. ere are also facilities for disabled people if needed. So why not go along on Sunday 27th October and meet their happy, chatty group where they will give you a warm welcome as you go through their Open Doors. Sunday Services Go along to Black eld Baptist Church ( e Heart of the Village) on Sundays 27th October, 3rd, 10th and 17th November from 10.30am for their regular services. Everyone is welcome to join them at Hampton Lane, Black eld for their services. All Souls Service ‘All Souls’ - A Special Ecumenical Service of Remembrance is being held on Sunday 3rd November at 6.30pm at All Saints’ Church, Fawley for anyone who would like to remember someone they’ve loved and lost. During the service there will be three ways in which people will be remembered. Firstly there will be cards available as you enter the church on which the names of people can be written. ese names will not be read out during the service, but will be part of their prayers of remembrance. Secondly there will be an opportunity for everyone to light a candle during the service, a personal act of remembrance. irdly during their prayers, the names of those who have died during the time of September 2018 – end of October 2019 will be read out. SOUP & SWEET Trinity Church will be holding a regular Soup & Sweet event at Hazel Farm Road, Totton, SO40 8WU on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 11.45am to 12.45pm. A choice of soups & sweets will be available for £3.50. All Souls Day At Beaulieu Abbey Taken to Task Hallowe’en: the evening before All Saints’ Day, this is a positive celebration of the glorious saints who have gone before us in the faith. Saint Swithun, our (Winchester) Cathedral’s patron is one of our local saints who was Bishop of Winchester in the ninth century. Hallowe’en is then followed by All Saints Day, which in turn is followed by All Souls Day. is coming All Souls Day, Saturday 2nd November is to be celebrated in Beaulieu Abbey Church. It is a ‘Go Along & Sing’ performance open to anyone who wishes to sing (or to go and lsiten). Times are: 3pm Rehearsal for Singers; 7pm performance. Dear Herald readers 16 year old Greta unberg took world leaders to task for their ‘betrayal’ of young people through their inertia over the climate crisis at a United Nations summit that failed to deliver ambitious new commitments to address dangerous global heating. unberg has every right to be angry at many words but little action and it was sad but predictable to see her mocked by some including some in positions of power. When were you last passionate and angry about something – perhaps an injustice or a breach of trust of some kind? e Bible has a tradition of speaking truth to power and many of the prophets of the Old Testament were ignored or worse hunted down. We need people who listen and especially listen to the hopes and the fears of our young people without patronising them. I worry about the future which we are making for generations to come and perhaps it is time to give more power to them to realise a better society for us all. ese words from the Bible encourage us to trust them: “May our sons in their youth be like plants full grown, our daughters like corner pillars cut for the structure of a palace” (Psalm 144:12 (ESV) Yours faithfully Eddie Boon Minister, Cornerstone Church Hythe A new cemetery in Calshot was opened by New Forest District Council on Friday 27th September. e cemetery has been created on council-owned land that was part of the old RAF Calshot military base, former home to seaplanes and ying boats from before World War 1 until 1961. e new cemetery is expected to provide burial space for the next 20 years. Calshot cemetery is one of seven burial sites run by New Forest District Council and will replace Black eld New Cemetery will Provide for District’s Burial Needs cemetery which is nearing capacity.
