Carole created 5 beautiful arrangements to symbolise occasions close to her heart, s i m u l t a n e o u s l y entertaining the group with her life stories. When we were young (bridesmaid): handled basket (handle clear) t for a bridesmaid containing green Anastasia c h r y s a n t h e m u m s double lisianthus, yellow alstroemerias, Nashville lily and phormium leaves looped for bow e ect. Falling in love, having a baby: this basket was lled with “baby” colours - blue delphinium, pink ranunculus, pink sweet williams, yellow false acacia, yellow and green chrysanthemums. A big heart: cast iron heart adorned with a dramatic horizontal arrangement. Large green palms, azara foliage, green orchid sprays, spectacular red Naomi roses (delicately perfumed), green double lisianthus and red spray roses completed the e ect. In love with woodland: a gorgeous cork bark encompassed the container and a beautiful vertical spring ower arrangement sprung up. Forsythia, budding sticks, hellebores, mixed ranunculus, mixed da odils, ivy, tulips and purple clematis. The grand finale, falling in love with exotic holidays: a large circular arrangement including palms, heliconia, monstera leaves, yellow proteus, looped aspidistra leaves, green anthurium, wine coloured kangaroo paws, pink pineapples and phormium leaves, exotic! Lucky raffle winners had big smiles, cheers of gratitude to Carole! Sadly, to protect members health, April’s meeting has been cancelled. e next meeting of Foresters Flower Club will be on Thursday 7th May at Copythorne Parish Hall at 7.30pm. Christine Payne will present “Whiskets”. For more information contact Debbie orne on: 07769 830752. Local photographer, writer, lecturer and publisher, Gerald Ponting, gave a fascinating insight in to wild owers in our area at the Dibden Purlieu Gardening Association’s meeting on ursday 5th March, with an excellent slideshow on “‘Flowers of Reserves and Roadsides’. Gerald took us through the year starting with the snowdrops of Crab Wood near Winchester, woodland spring owers such as primroses and bluebells, followed by owers of the wayside, including ox eye daisies and white campion. ere were wonderful photographs detailing flowers of hedgerows, such as sloes and dog roses and those of streams, meadows, grassland and chalk downs, together with historic references about the plants and the origin of their names. e beautiful wild owers in his talk were photographed within ten miles of Chandler’s Ford, in conservation areas, roadsides and even Winchester Park and Ride! Gerald explained that, since 1945, half of ancient woodland has been felled, 97% of damp meadow has been drained and one in ve of wild ower species is threatened with extinction. is evening certainly made us appreciate the wealth of wild ora growing in our local area and the best areas to visit. Dibden Purlieu Gardening Association meets on the rst ursday of the month at St. Andrew’s Centre and welcomes visitors and new members.
