It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so. Organisations with which you have an ongoing relationship, for example those who regard you as a customer, or in the case of charities, a donor, may well gather your consent during the early stages of your relationship with them and will therefore be entitled to call you even if your number is registered on TPS, unless you have previously told them speci cally that you object to them calling you for marketing purposes. e TPS can accept the registration of mobile telephone numbers, however it is important to note that this will prevent the receipt of marketing voice calls, but not SMS (text) messages. If you wish to stop receiving SMS marketing messages, send an ‘opt-out’ request to the company involved. Once a number has been successfully registered it is placed on the national ‘do not call’ register immediately, so organisations engaging in live unsolicited direct marketing calls know not to call it. is can take up to 28 days for the registration to become fully e ective. As TPS registration only prevents marketing calls, organisations will still be able to call you for the purposes of genuine market research. To register with TPS, telephone 0345 070 0707 or visit www.tpsonline.org.uk For more details about TPS and the other preference services such as Mailing Preference Service (MPS) visit www.tpsonline.org.uk e TPS are aware of a number of bogus and scam organisations that call people claiming to be the TPS and try to charge consumers for registration. It is FREE to sign up to the TPS register. ey will never contact you requesting payments or credit card details. Once your telephone number is on the TPS, it will remain on it and there is no need to update your registration. If you suspect that you have been contacted by a fraudulent organisation, then you can contact Action Fraud to report your concerns. www.actionfraud.police.uk YOU ASK…WE ANSWER by Claire Terrill, TMT Legal Services We were asked if you still needed a Will if you had no property nor any considerable assets to leave. Our answer was... yes. In this instance there were young children and a Will can provide for the appointment of Guardians. Also having a Will means that you can appoint your own Executors who can start handling your a airs early on. We have noticed an upsurge in unregulated Will writers and have seen poorly dra ed provisions both for the appointment of executors and the distribution of assets. At TMT Legal Services we have over 40 years of legal expertise.
