Mrs Drummond was invited along to award the trophies and rosettes for various accomplishments by its members over the past year. Alan Francombe was welcomed as the new chairman and has taken over the role from Stuart Harding who sadly passed away last year, having held the post for the last 30 years. Over the last year the club has donated £150 to Oakhaven from its annual quiz night and £280 to the Air Ambulance from the proceeds of the annual horse show. e club has also pledged money towards a de brillator, hopefully to be installed at Ashlett Creek. A separate event was also held in aid of Wave 105’s cash for kids where £400 was raised. e popular riding club ran 17 events last year for rider of all ages and abilities. ese events are held on the forest, locally on the common and also at the Fawley Field with kind permission from the Cadland Estate. e club also arranges various clinics with instructors for children and adults. e club also has fun riding events which usually involves sweets and chocolate which keeps everyone going. e club has a considerable membership, although you can attend if you are not a member. Everyone is warmly welcomed to go along and have a go. Just turn up on the day with a at pair of shoes and they will provide the rest. Waterside Bowling Club caters for all abilities and ages, providing non-competitive and friendly games on Monday a ernoons and Friday evenings. ere is also a friendly Wednesday a ernoon internal league. ey also have a very active social calendar with Bowls and BBQ’s, Fish & Chip evenings and an annual tour etc. For competitive bowlers, they have two high standard bowling greens and a competitive programme includ- ing internal/external competitions and league bowling in both the New Forest & Southampton & District. Evening sessions are on Mondays and Fridays with the occasional Wednesday - times arranged to suit the players. e Club Coach, Ola Osuch, is available by appointment, with high priority to those under 18. e oodlit courts are located behind the old re nery social club on Long Lane, Holbury, with ample parking. Trained volunteers welcome and guide you to information, o ering support along with a cuppa and slice of cake in the light and airy ‘Hub’ at this friendly and welcoming Centre, located within the grounds of Oakhaven Hospice in Lower Pennington Lane, Lymington, SO41 8ZZ. Anyone is welcome to drop in anytime during opening hours - there’s no need for any referral or be known to Oakhaven, whether you’ve been recently diagnosed or living with a life limiting progressive illness, you are a carer, or you have been bereaved; e Coates Centre is there for you. A range of free wellbeing and social sessions* and activities can be accessed to help make your journey easier to manage, whilst monthly peer support groups for Dementia, Respiratory conditions, advanced cancer and any type of brain tumour, o er a place to share and support one another. So when diagnosed with, or receiving treatment for, a progressive or life limiting illness, supporting their partner who is ill, or coping with bereavement, are most likely to keep their feelings and worries to themselves and reluctant to ask for support. An informal MensMeet group meets on Friday morning from 10am until 12noon at the Coates Centre, located within the grounds of Oakhaven Hospice in Lower Pennington Lane, Lymington, SO41 8ZZ. ere’s always a cuppa on the go and cake available, along with the newspapers to hide behind if you don’t feel like chatting straight away. When you nish o a can of drink do you leave the ring pull attached? Or are you one of those who carefully pulls it o and feeds it through the opening to drop into the can? Here’s something else you can do - detach the ring pulls and collect them! If you do, Hythe & Waterside Rotary can help you bene t a local charity, the Purple Community Fund (PCF). ey turn them into a range of products which are then sold to help people in the Philippines. e idea rst came to the charity’s founder when she saw families living and working on the rubbish tips in Manilla. PCF enables people to make a living by turning the ring pulls into a range of eco-fashion handbags, clothing and accessories. Used in this way it’s calculated that each ring pull is worth 3 pence. So far, Hythe Rotary has collected and sent o several thousand ring pulls to PCF. e club are also planning an event to sell items made with ring pulls. Bramshaw WI meet on the rst ursday of each month at 2pm for 2.15pm. Besides their monthly meetings, they walk, enjoy pub lunches, theatre trips, hold various evening events and visits to places of interest both at home and abroad. ey also play Scrabble, Mah Jong and darts and have lively Cra and Art Groups and a Book Club. eir next meeting is on Thursday 7th May for their Annual Meeting and Resoltuions.
