Page 32 • The HERALD • 25th June 2020 v SAY YOU SAW IT IN THE HERALD v WE CARE, YOU CARE Bluebird Care (Totton) Rated Overall ‘Good’ As Well As ‘Outstanding’ On the day before entering lockdown for the COVID-19 prevention e orts, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) undertook an inspection of Bluebird Care Totton branch under management of Becca McMann. is was her rst inspection as a registered manager and she was able to improve the rating from overall ‘Good’ to an ‘Outstanding’ rating in one of the ve key areas, ‘Well-led’. Becca manages a small team of caring and compassionate Totton carers who continued to work to an ‘Outstanding’ level through whatever circumstances are thrown at them. Becca and her team should be extremely proud of their achievements, and it is because of their dedication and teamwork that they continue to work through the COVID- 19 period. Bluebird Care Totton is one of four branches of Bluebird Care franchise owned by Hugo and Bernadette Mills. e rst branch was set up in 2012 in Lymington, which covers the southern area of the New Forest. en in 2016, the Totton branch was opened, to provide service for the Northern side of the New Forest. Over the years, several Bluebird Care franchises have achieved ‘Overall Outstanding’ ratings from the CQC, and Bluebird Care Totton aspires to achieve ‘Overall Outstanding’ in the future. e CQC report states some very good insight about how the branch operates, including ‘sta who are From left to right: Hugo Mills (Bluebird Care owner), Janette Eaton (care supervisor), Emma Monteith (care supervisor), Becca McMann (registered manager) highly motivated and exceptionally well trained’ as well as a family member of a customer commenting: “I couldn’t ask for anything better either from the office team or the carers”. e CQC investigation reported that the Bluebird Care Totton team was ‘extremely well-led and focused on maintaining and if possible, improving high standards of care’, with carers who improve the lives of customers. Becca is a highly talentedmember of the Bluebird Care Totton team, whose leadership is impressive. e collaboration of Becca and her team is admirable and Bluebird Care is proud to have them on board. Local authorities across Hampshire, including the County Council and all the districts and boroughs, have joined forces with the county’s community and voluntary sector, to ensure vulnerable people are able to access the support they need during the coming weeks. A helpline is up and running for frail or vulnerable residents who do not have support from families, friends or their local community, and who need urgent assistance with essential food or household supplies, collection of medication, or who are at risk of loneliness. The Coronavirus Hampshire Helpline – Hantshelp4vulnerable - can be contacted on 0333 370 4000. e helpline is available seven days a week, from 9am-5pm. e service is available to people residing in the county of Hampshire only. ere are separate arrangements in place for Southampton, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight residents. Hantshelp4vulnerable will provide advice and information, as well as co-ordinate requests for practical help, passing them through to the appropriate Local Response Centre – there is one based in each of Hampshire’s 11 districts. In addition to the helpline, an expert County Council team is continuing to provide specialist social care support to residents with more complex needs.
