A er successfully securing £1.6 million and training over 1,000 people in the past year, Hampshire County Council has secured the additional Construction Skills Fund money, to provide basic training for those looking to develop essential skills for a career in the construction industry. Welcoming the funding, Councillor Roz Chadd, the County Council’s Executive Member for Education and Skills, said : “This money will enable 750 more people to take advantage of training that will lead to long term employment – opportunities that could equally appeal to people who have become unemployed in the wake of Covid-19. A shortage of skills in the construction industry reinforces the importance of training the next generation of a skilled building workforce. With extra safety measures in place at all sites, Covid-19 awareness training for all trainees and most sites back up and running to deliver their projects, there will be further training available, following completion of the basic training that this funding will provide.” Commenting on the outcome of the rst year’s training, Councillor Chadd added: “The initial year of running this training scheme was a huge success, with 478 people gaining employment straight after the two-week courses, and more ready to take up apprenticeships as the industry’s capacity expands. There are already potential new recruits on the waiting list so, with this further funding, our Skills and Participation Team can continue to partner with training providers across the county to train many hundreds more.” For further information on available training courses, visit www.hampshire.gov.uk/construction-skills Online Advice and Support For Victims of Crime From Graeme Barbour (Police, Digital Communications Officer, Hampshire) e Victim Care Service, funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner and provided by Victim Support, has launched a new website to ensure anyone a ected by crime in Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton can access support and advice. The website www. hampshireiowvictimcare.co.uk offers tips on how to protect yourself from di erent types of crime and advice on what to do if you experience them. Police and Crime Commissioner, Michael Lane, said: “While we have seen our communities pull together to help each other during this time, sadly, we have also seen those who wish us harm exploiting the situation to take advantage of the vulnerable. I would like to remind everyone that the police are still working to fight crime, protect victims and tackle anti-social behaviour. And equally reinforce that support services for victims like the Victim Care Service very much remain in place and stand ready to offer help and advice. This new website complements the support over the phone that the Victim Care Service continues to provide during the pandemic.” Victim Care Service freephone number 0808 178 1641. e service is open from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday but there is also a Live Chat service that is contactable 24/7 on Victim Support’s website.
