Trant Engineering, which works at Fawley oil re nery, has won the Construction Engineering Industry Sector award in the 2020 occupational health and safety awards by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). e rm is the only other company in the UK, along with ExxonMobil, to have achieved that record number of accolades for demonstrating high health and safety standards. In its 62nd year and headquartered at Rushington, near the Waterside, Trant Engineering employs 1,000 people and is involved in complex infrastructure projects in the energy, nuclear, oil and gas, defence and process & water industries. Gerry Somers, Trant Engineering’s Managing Director UK, said: “We relentlessly pursue and benchmark best practice in health and safety – in challenging, high-risk industries there can be no margin for error because the consequences could be life-changing or fatal. The RoSPA accolade, our 32nd consecutive one, is an achievement which is shared by all our staff across the UK and internationally.” most sought-after global accolades in health and safety. Nearly 2,000 entrants vie each year to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest- running health and safety industry award. Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of quali cations, awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest- running of its kind in the UK, but it receives entries from organisations around the world, making it one of the Trant Engineering’s health and safety team outside the multi-disciplinary contractor’s head office near Southampton. West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group has worked closely with local people, the Hospital League of Friends, e Royal British Legion, the Parish Council, local churches and community groups to ensure the design of the building is modern, t for purpose and re ects its strong local heritage and important place in history as a war memorial. Works on site are due to start from the end of September 2020 with a provisional completion date for May 2022. e majority of services currently provided at the hospital will continue running as normal throughout the construction period, but in the event of any disruption, patients will be kept informed and, where necessary, redirected to alternative locations. GP, Dr Sarah Scho eld, Clinical Chairman of West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We’re really excited to be taking these final steps in the redevelopment of Hythe and Dibden War Memorial Hospital. We would like to thank the local community and the League of Friends for all their hard work and support in now making this a reality.” Susan Swa er, Regional Partnership Director (South East) for NHS Property Services, said: “The efforts of NHS Property Services, West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group and other local partners will enable the delivery of a modern, start-of-the-art, sustainable healthcare facility which will be flexible and fit for purpose, both now and for future generations.” John Carr, Chairman of the Hospital League of Friends, said: “This is such good news for the local community and has been long awaited. We are so pleased that we can now progress with the construction of the building which will continue to provide a variety of much valued clinical services and maintain its importance as the war memorial.” NHS West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS Property Services are delighted to con rm that approval has been given to proceed with the building of the new Hythe and Dibden War Memorial Hospital delivering a new state of the art hospital for the community.
