Hythe & Waterside Rotary Club wanted to go further by nding a way in which they could help people in need to use their own resources to improve their lives - a hand-up rather than a hand-out. ey decided to invest in Lend with Care, the micro-credit arm of Care International, a well-established charity. Using information about the entrepreneurs who are seeking loans they choose who they want to fund and how much they wish to give. So far they have decided to spread loans across a dozen countries and several di erent types of business - partly to minimise risk while they see how the scheme operates. It’s very encouraging to report that they haven’t yet had a single bad debt in spite of the very di cult situations in which many of the entrepreneurs live. Of course, they could decide at this stage to take their money back as loans are paid o . It would be the safe thing to do but as a club they want to take the risk of helping people to li themselves out of poverty with dignity. And so far it’s working! If you would like to know more about Lend with Care, or about Hythe & Waterside Rotary Club please contact secretary@hytherotary.org.uk A new and exciting business has recently started trading in Hythe o ering a design and engraving service on all things glass. Helen, who has lived in the Waterside area all her life, worked at the Glass Lady Ltd in Southampton for 15 years as the senior engraver prior to the company’s closure in June. Following their closure Helen has taken the opportunity to use her experience and continue her passion in this sector and has launched her own company ‘Script Engraving’, producing freehand artwork and calligraphy on glass. Helen works with a unique bespoke hand engraving machine which offers many more possibilities and freedom for designs over other engravers who use computerised machines which can o en limit a customer to regulated designs. Most glassware can be engraved regardless of its shape. Every piece of work, undertaken by Helen, is designed from scratch making each one unique. As well as hand engraving, Helen can also provide sandblasted stencils for engraving corporate awards and sporting trophies, this process allows precise matching of a corporate identity and the reproduction of a company’s logo allowing larger orders to be identical. Whatever occasion you are purchasing for, be it a unique birthday gift, a retirement, sporting event or award ceremony, an engraved item, big or small, can make a perfect gi for those little gestures and memorable keepsakes. For all enquiries, please get in touch with Helen at www.scriptengraving. uk email helen@ scriptengraving.uk or telephone 07871 023993. Helen Sheppard
