Back in the early days of lockdown the local sewing community unravelled their threads and got to work stitching scrubs, bags, and headbands for the NHS. As time progressed and face masks became the must-have accessory, the pattern book changed for a group of local ladies. Yew Tree Masks is made up of 7 dedicated stitchers who, over the past few months, have made 1000’s of face masks for the community to purchase – all in aid of local charities. So far, they have raised more than £3000 for the local food bank, along with regular donations to the RNLI, Honeypot Children’s Charity and Age Concern New Forest. Along with selling the masks for charity they have also donated 100’s of free masks to the elderly, charity workers and those who would nd it di cult to get out and buy one, stating they: “Simply want to make sure everyone has access to one, should they need it” . Material has been mostly donated, but sometimes if they can’t resist a certain fabric, they will purchase it out of their own pockets! You may have seen ‘trees’ of masks popping up in front gardens or at the end of drives – please stop by and support these talented sewing bees by purchasing a mask or two for charity. ere are so many di erent sizes and patterns to choose from and you simply pay the recommended amount in the honesty box or transfer money via PayPal.
