Located in one of the most sought-a er locations on the Waterside, e Galley overlooks the boats moored at the Marina and out over Southampton Water. e perfect spot to while away a few hours eating quality, fresh and exciting food with local produce at the heart of the menu. Owners James and Kathryn Longhurst are familiar and successful names in the hospitality world. You may have already met them at their 18th Century Pub B&B, e Dog and Crook at Braish eld, and up until recently they were owners of the Filly Inn at Brockenhurst. Upon meeting them, just 24 hours prior to opening night, it was obvious to see how dedicated they are to their cra - only investing in the nest of locations, the very best produce and the most talented of teams. James says he is “constantly blown away, yet never surprised by the creative culinary masterminds of the kitchen team with Head Chef Dean Armstrong at the helm, supported by Pastry Chef Amy, Senior Sous Chef Patrick and Sous Chef Darren, together they produce magic on a plate”. I took up their kind invitation to join them for opening night canapés and having previously been a Restaurant Manager many moons ago I eagerly attended wearing two of my favourite hats, Editor, and self-confessed foodie! e team not only pride themselves in supporting local farmers, butchers, and sheries but James is actively involved in game shooting to ensure only the nest produce reaches the plate. e canapés were heavenly, not a Vol-au-vent in sight; however a few ‘familiar’ combinations graced the plate with an alternative twist. e 1980’s pub classic of ‘scampi in a basket’ became panko breaded langoustine tails, with a homemade tartare sauce in a delicate lo basket. Cheese and pineapple on a stick became a delightfully fun cheesecake topped with sweet pineapple. Everything from the pulled slow-roasted haunch of venison to the smoked salmon mousse en croûte and sticky to ee choux buns were given a ‘Galley Twist’. To put it simply… the food was divine, and I can understand why Dean is on a xed course to achieve the Michelin star accolade they have rmly in their sights. e Galley serves breakfast most days from 9am, which turn into delicious lunches from midday – choosing either a quick bite or a long lazy lunch, with options for everyone. A ernoon tea, with delicious treats are served between 4-6pm and on Wednesdays through to Saturdays as evening falls, the restaurant o ers an exclusive ne dining menu from 6pm. Sundays are a more traditional a air with roasts and chef’s specials being served from midday. For an extra special Christmas Day to remember why not treat yourselves to their 6-course mouth-watering menu, starting the experience with canapés and owing zz – Why not? It is Christmas a er all! Everything is made fresh on the premises, so dietary requirements can easily be accommodated, just let them know upon booking so they can create something special for you.
