Rosie, a former Music at Beaulieu prize-winner, is already forging a promising professional career. Engagements have included performances for Royalty and on Classic FM. She is a pupil of Claire Jones, former Royal harpist, with whom she will be touring next year. Her playing was elegant and assured and was sensitively complemented by the 13-strong orchestra under the baton of their principal guest conductor Paul Ingram. Nova, founded in 2017 by cellist Philip Daish-Handy, is fast gaining wide recognition as a dynamic new musical force and up until this year’s restrictions on live performance has frequently performed to packed venues across the South. One of its major aims is to provide a platform for young musicians of the future. Rosie Gill Elgar’s wonderful three movement Serenade for Strings followed, with just the right amount of light and shade. Next came American Samuel Barber’s sublime Adagio for Strings, arranged from the second movement of his Op 11 String Quartet in 1936, and made famous by its use on important national occasions and in many television and lm soundtracks. A lively nale was provided by Gustav Holst’s St Paul’s Suite, completed in 1913 for the pupils of St Paul’s Girls’ School in Hammersmith, where Holst was music master for nearly 30 years. e fourth and nal movement, ‘ e Dargason’ which also features ‘Greensleeves’, provided a suitably impressive climax to the whole evening. Councillor Neville Penman and the Committee would like to announce that we will be putting up the Christmas trees and the lights with a added surprise for the children and new Motifs that we brought in the Christmas Sales and new lights on the other ones. We are still short of FUNDS but we will get there, we do have time but the Committee have decided we will give the Town and the Residents something to cheer them up and get us through this terrible time that we are all facing together. We did lose a couple of our sponsors this year which is fully understandable but we would like to thank Totton Rotary club and Hamwic estate agents for their Contributions and I still have time to raise more before we get to Christmas. I would also like to thank and promise the people that have contacted us asking if we would be able to do it this year, you inspired us forward and we thank you for that and the little extras are for you and all the other children that support us every year. Totton & Eling Christmas Trees & Lights Will Go Ahead Announcement from Cllr Neville Penman
