People can become socially isolated for a variety of reasons, such as getting older and weaker, younger family members moving away or busy, leaving the workplace, the death of a spouse and friends, or through disability and illness. Older people are especially vulnerable to social isolation, which can have a serious e ect on their health and wellbeing. Local charity, Age Concern New Forest helps local older people to know that they are cared for and valued; supporting them to receive the bene ts they are entitled to; o ering companionship and helping them to make informed decisions about their lives. e team, based at Dibden Purlieu, can arrange for a Volunteer to visit an older person in their own home; the service is aimed at anyone who does not receive regular visitors. Some older people may prefer a regular chat over the telephone to make them feel that they are not forgotten; a Volunteer can arrange to phone on a regular basis.
