Earlier this year the Rotary Club of Lymington organised a visit to the beautiful Furzey Gardens at Minstead. Sadly, due to the “rule of six” pandem- ic restrictions, they had to cancel. However the Rotarians chose to pro- ceed with donating what they would have paid for their visit, along with a top-up donation from Rotary. With a cheque for £300, Roger Ling, chairman of the Community Service committee met with Lesley Brooks from Minstead Trust at Furzey Gardens in all its autumn glory to present the cheque. Lesley Brooks said “We are so very grateful to the members of Lymington Rotary, who despite their visit not being able to go ahead chose to support the Trust anyway. Like all charities Minstead Trust has been affected by the pandemic, and we know that Community groups and organisa- tions that usually are busy fundraising to support local charities have not been able to meet or hold events to do so. I was very touched when Roger called to say that they’d still like to make a donation. We have been really humbled by the support we have received during this crisis by our friends and supporters, and have been working hard to think of new ideas where individuals and groups alike can continue to get involved and fundraise virtually. We are planning a Virtual Festive Event in December; there are also Virtual murder mysteries that groups can take part in.” For more information about Minstead Trust, Furzey Gardens and ways to support its work helping people with learning disabilities please visit www. minsteadtrust.org.uk or email Lesley. brooks@minsteadtrust.org.uk Rotary Chairman, Roger Ling and Minstead Fundraising Co-ordinator, Lesley Brooks To reduce the risk of your outdoor premises becoming the target of thieves, the following advice can help improve your security: • Ensure that all outside storage facilities, such as sheds and containers, are locked with a heavy-duty secure padlock. • Outdoor security can be improved by having external passive infrared sensor (PIR) lighting, CCTV and alarms installed. • Do not park vehicles or store large items, such as bins, against a fence as this will provide easier access to your property. • Tools and high-value goods and equipment should be kept out of sight and locked away. Store your most valuable items inside your main property if possible. • Valuable outdoor furniture, such as gas barbecues, patio heaters and patio sets, bikes and garden machinery, can be protected by property-marking and photographing them.
