Hanger Farm, being part of Minstead Trust, provides us with a great opportunity to feel as if we can give back to other Fawley Parish Council acquired the Warren Copse and Holbury Manor Woodland in 2009 to compliment land it already owned in the area and the Conservation Group was formed in December of the same year under the Chairmanship of Eddie Holtham who was a councillor for the parish at the time. e woodland was best described as being broadly unmanaged and the plea for help that went out said “it needed some tender loving care to enhance its qualities”! ree people turned up for the rst two sessions but since then there has been a hardcore of 15 to 20 members for the past 10 years plus, meeting two mornings a month, weather (and more recently, COVID) permitting. With 2,121 hours of work between them over the years the Council planned to mark the 10 year anniversary of the group by presenting “Certi cate of Appreciation” awards to 6 long standing members at the Annual Parish meeting in April 2020, however due to the national lockdown this did not take place. As time has gone on and with restrictions continuing it was decided to go ahead with the awards rather than waiting – to Felicity Beard, Pat Herridge, Mike and Sandra Sare, Steve Reed and of course, not forgetting Eddie who has run the group with such success. Chairman of Fawley Parish Council, Cllr Alan Alvey said: “The area has changed so much over the last ten years and we have received many compliments on the work that has been undertaken by the conservation group which, I can assure you, is very much appreciated by the Council and Its parishioners”. Eddie said “At first local residents did seem to be sceptical about plans for the Copse however it is very gratifying to hear the nice, positive comments we receive today which makes it all worthwhile. It has been a learning curve for all of us, but we have received great support from the Forestry Commission, the National Park Authority including the Land Advice Service, the National Grid and Natural England. They set us on the right course for what we had to do”. If you would like to join the Warren Copse and Holbury Manor Conservation Group please contact Eddie Holtham on 023 8089 4632 - it is a friendly group and you would be made most welcome. 10 Year Anniversary – Warren Copse And Holbury Manor Conservation Group
