A Waterside dance school, Shine Studios based at New Forest Academy in Holbury, has fended off international competition to win a Gold Award in the Dance School of the Year Awards. With entries from as far as Bahrain, America and Australia the community dance school won gold in the 100 to 150 student’s category. Now in its eighth year and run by Anne Walker MBE, the awards aim to recognise outstanding achievement in the dance world. is year instead of the usual red carpet event the awards were held virtually. Shine Studios was recognised for its remarkable achievements within the local community including the development of a purpose built dance studio, the inclusion of male dancers in ‘en pointe’ Ballet classes, their Shine Studios Foundation Fund which helps local disadvantaged youngsters and those facing terminal or life-changing illnesses and fantastic relationships with local schools. Co-Principal Katie Day said “We were absolutely shell shocked to win the Gold Award. It was wonderful to be amongst so many incredible dance schools from across the world and it proves what a modest dance school can achieve whilst standing side by side with the local community. We work tirelessly.” Co-Principal Emma Williams added “We wish to thank our dancers, their families, staff and local schools Shine Students for their support.
