Find out more: www. thebraintumourcharity. org Hythe & Waterside Rotary Club offers local schools an annual award to be given to a pupil selected by the school as having demonstrated outstanding personal commitment in some way. They donate a prize of £100 on behalf of the pupil to a charitable cause of their choice. Applemore College, Dibden Purlieu, has nominated Matilda Cranston , a Year 11 student, as their recipient of the award and she has asked that the £100 prize be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society. Matilda has been raising money for Alzheimer’s charities whilst being heavily involved in the care of her Grandad. To raise addutuinal money, she has taken part in 3 sponsored walks, helped at a tea and cake morning to raise money for Admiral Nurses through Dementia UK, and helped her Mum administer her Grandad’s tribute page. Matilda also helped her Grandad in practical ways: helping him to walk, sitting and chatting with him, waiting outside disabled toilets to make sure he was okay, showing remarkable patience and understanding when he struggled to make himself understood. She went on “window visits” (which were di cult and upsetting) to his nursing home and played music to him, and she comforted her Grandma throughout his eventual funeral service.
