Our very own ‘Quiz King’ David Morris is somewhat of a celebrity, not only appearing on, but also winning the Weakest Link back in 2001 and giving Ken Bruce a run for his money by scooping 1st place (twice) on BBC Radio 2’s Pop Master. You may also recognise David from his previous time on Radio Solent, hosting a twice weekly show called ‘Quizface’. David moved to the area 45 years ago, having been born and bred in Coventry. In 2000 David married Jan and not only are they partners in life, but they make quite a formidable quiz pairing. Running pub quizzes locally for many years, David and Jan have now o cially ‘retired’ from regular quiz commitments – however they do nd it a struggle to turn a good one down should the opportunity arise! When the 1st lockdown hit back in March 2020, the ‘Dynamic Duo’ knew they had the skills, time, and resources to raise not only peoples spirits but also much needed money and awareness for local causes. Being part of the Waterside Isolation Group, they know how vital it is, particularly during the ongoing pandemic, to keep people connected. at was when ‘ e Waterside Self- Isolation Quiz Group’ was launched on Facebook. Weekly quizzes have been held every ursday at 8pm on Facebook during every lockdown. ey are light-hearted, varied and not too taxing so are suitable for everyone. Every quiz raises money by asking for donations for a local cause and to date they have supported a whopping 40 local charities, raising approximately £10,000 (and counting!) One incredibly grateful recipient is e Honeypot Children’s Charity. Regional Community Fundraising O cer Viv Carter expresses her sincere gratitude: “Thank you to David and Jan, yet again another super quiz! Thank you also to everyone who has already donated to The Honeypot Children’s Charity. Every penny counts, especially at the moment, to support young carers aged 5-12 years old who are even more isolated than usual and to ensure we can provide them with respite breaks to look forward to when all this is over.” To join the weekly quizzes please drop David a message on Facebook via his community group page ‘Hythe & Waterside People’ www.facebook. com/groups/hytheandwatersidepeople or go directly to the isolation quiz page: www.facebook. com/groups/140749180698655 David & Jan Morris
