Every three months, each John Lewis shop selects three community groups or charities to assist, and Community Liaison Co-ordinator Tracey Taylor proposed Longdown Activity Farm to her John Lewis Partners. She had been moved by an appeal she had seen on local television by Bryan Pass, owner of Longdown Activity Farm, asking for funding to feed the Longdown animals during the rst lockdown in 2020. the GoFundMe appeal shortly after the March 2020 lockdown and were then simply overwhelmed and humbled by the scale of generosity from our visitors and friends. We closed the funding page when we reopened the farm in the summer - the incredible sum raised paid for our animals’ feed, bedding and veterinary needs throughout lockdown and will continue to sustain them well into 2021.” Bryan continues: “Without these generous donations, we would have had to close the farm gates for good, so we are eternally grateful to those that donated, and of course, to Tracey and the John Lewis Partnership Community Matters scheme for their gift at Christmas time.” Tracey explains : “Longdown Activity Farm is a much- loved local children’s activity farm and owners Bryan and Dawn Pass are well known for their passionate support of local charities and worthy causes. Their farm was badly affected by the COVID-19 restrictions, and we wanted to help them in their hour of need.” She continues: “ The John Lewis Partnership donates over half a million pounds to deserving charities and also to community organisations such as Longdown every year, which we are very proud to support.” Bryan Pass responded: “ We are so very grateful to Tracey and the John Lewis Partnership for their most generous donation, which will be added to our GoFundMe appeal money. A Just Giving page was set up to assist in the collection of donations. Initially they had hoped to aim for a target of £300 to £500. To everyone’s amazement the total raised amounted to £1,080. ey would like to thank all those that took part and to all those who so kindly donated! ey also held an on-line Christmas Social for their members, during which various items were auctioned and a further £55 was raised for the Charity. ey hope this money will enable the Foodbank to continue its commendable work during the winter period. It is unclear when they will be able to resume normal service and start rehearsing for another concert, but please keep an eye out for future announcements by visiting: www.marchwoodmusicsociety.com In common with all other amateur music groups throughout the country, Marchwood Prelude and Marchwood Sinfonia have been unable to stage any live performances since March. is has hit all players and loyal audiences hard and a ected their ability to raise funds for well- deserving causes across the region. In the current di cult circumstances, it was decided they should try to help people in dire need at this time of year by doing something to raise some money for the Waterside Foodbank, a charity supported at previous Christmas
