New for this year, Oakhaven Hospice is asking families, friends, schools, clubs, businesses and organisations to pop on their bunny ears and run, walk, or even hop their chosen 3km route in their ‘bubble’ and at a time convenient for them, from Friday 2nd to Sunday 18th April 2021. Following the success of Santa Dash Week in December 2020, Oakhaven has introduced another themed fun run this Easter, giving us all the chance to have some fun whilst raising as much as we can for the Hospice. Alicia Poulson, Events Fundraiser at Oakhaven Hospice said: “So many events have been cancelled in the last year and with restrictions still in place, we are working on new events for 2021. We’re excited to start this year with our Bunny Run and although we’re not yet able to come back together for our fabulous, themed fun runs, we would love for the local community to join in our new Easter event, wherever they are! Our fundraising team will be keeping track of all the running bunnies and posting photos on our social media and website, so please do send us your photos and let’s all help to spread some much-needed joy this Easter.” Hop to it - Registration for the Bunny Run is just £7.50 per person and all participants will be sent bunny ears, to add a little extra spring into steps! Children will receive some additional Easter treats too. All funds raised go to support Oakhaven Hospice’s important service for the New Forest, Totton, and Waterside community. COUNCIL CARDBOARD CONFUSION Harrison, described a media release on the 12th February from the New Forest District Council as “ Completely crass and nonsensical.” The release issued asked Council tax paying residents not to place bulky cardboard packaging with their regular rubbish but to store it in their homes or gardens to take it to a Council waste tip. Or pay the New Forest District Council Leader of the Opposition Liberal Democrat Group on New Forest District Council, David £30 to dispose of it - or ask a private waste disposal contractor to remove it. He said: “I cannot believe the Council could tie itself into knots about waste cardboard when they only have to open their eyes and see exactly what the situation is out on the streets across our District. We have all been locked down for months. We are allowed out for essential journeys only. It is hardly surprising then, that collectively we have turned to online retailers to buy items we need, which in turn has meant more waste packaging. Residents already pay on average around £1,800 for a Band D property Council tax, which incorporates the sum required for weekly waste disposal. To ask residents to now find other ways – including paying yet more money to the Council – for its disposal is crass and insensitive especially for residents in flats or smaller properties”.
