As for so many charities and organisations, the pandemic has made it incredibly challenging to secure adequate funding to continue the provision of services. Age Concern New Forest funds many of its services from the income secured from its charity shops. Having to close the shops due to pandemic lockdowns and postpone their fundraising events has meant they are more grateful than ever for donations to help continue their work to support older, local people. Walks are open to everyone and are a good opportunity to meet new friends, take a friend along or even take your dog with you to enjoy the walk. eir next two walks take place on Wednesday 12th May meet at Eyeworth Pond car park, followed on Wednesday 9th June meet at Stony Cross car park, co ee at Sir Walter Tyrell. For more details call Phil Butter eld on: 023 8084 5684 or 07708 582285 or by emailing: cedaro ythe@btinternet. com Slowly but Surely… At the time of going to press the team at Waterside Cancer Support Centre (WCSC) are hopeful that Stage 2 of the Roadmap out of Lockdown will have been rolled out and they are able to provide face-to-face support once again. is means that the centre will slowly start o ering pre- booked counselling appointments with all COVID-19 procedures in place for sta and clients. Meanwhile, sta are actively o ering support via Zoom and on the telephone for anyone a ected by cancer in any way, for a patient, family members, carers or anyone bereaved through cancer. Due to the Pandemic, cancer patients have sometimes had appointments and treatments delayed which has caused extra anxiety and distress for them and their families. e trained team understand it can be an enormous step to pick up the phone and get in touch and they want to reassure you that your call will be dealt with in con dence and with sensitivity. If you feel alone, isolated, frightened, anxious, they can o er support and care without judgement and in complete con dence. Please telephone: 023 8178 0409 for information. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, it is necessary for the much valued ‘Man Group’ to follow the policy of Wessex Cancer Trust and has temporarily suspended any face-to-face meetings. Optimistically the group will resume at the earliest opportunity. is should not preclude anyone interested in joining the Men’s Group though – please reach out and call the above number to speak to Peter or George who can provide a friendly ear. WCSC are very grateful to Sue, the “Sing for Life” leader who continues to hold weekly sing-along sessions via Zoom. e Wessex Cancer Charity Shop on Fairview Parade in Hythe has been having some maintenance work during the closure and looks forward to seeing friendly faces again before too long. ank you for your support. e team at WCSC thank everyone for their support and wishes everyone good health.
