We have provided 35 food parcels since November for families who are struggling with their nances and have been running a Zoom group for parents who were having di culties home educating their children. at has now stopped, but we hope to start our popular, Hythe based, FREE parenting course ‘Managing your Child’s Angry (or Anxious) Feelings’ in May 2021. Please call to reserve your place or nd out more. We have also been running a creative box project for young people with mental health needs, who would bene t by doing something creative. Our schools’ workers have been able to go back to work in schools to work with Year 6 pupils who are anxious about moving on to secondary school, and our highly successful ‘On the Right Track’ programme continues to help these young people and mentor them once they get on any other aspects of our work. We solely focus on the Hythe and Waterside area of the New Forest, (includes Marchwood, Holbury and Black eld) so we know the local area well. We have many di erent groups run by volunteers, including SWANs Group (for parents of children with special needs) and the Women’s Wellbeing Group (for women with mental health needs). anks very much to all the local groups such as Waterside Women and Waterside Quiz group who have supported us with funding for these groups recently. anks also to Dibden allotments, BBC Children in Need and NFDC for their support. Families Matter at Hythe URC by Julia Cross, Project Manager Hythe URC Young people getting creative for mental health to the secondary schools. Our Memory Group for people with dementia has now restarted, and we hope to reopen the Hythe Huddle in the summer, once restrictions ease. Please do call us if you need help with your young people (ages 5-12) or for information ‘Counselling Together’ is a professionally trained counselling service for Men, Woman and Couples in the local area. e counsellors are either accredited with the Association of Christian Counsellors, or the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, or working towards accreditation, and all receive regular individual supervision. e Trustees are chosen from various Christian denominations and the service is also supported by medical and legal professionals. ey are incredibly pleased to, once again, carry out face- to-face counselling sessions with new clients, in addition to counselling remotely online. ey operate out of local Trinity Church, Hazel Farm Road, Totton is holding services on Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Safety measures are in place including distanced seating; hand sanitising and those attending are required to wear face masks. Despite restrictions they plan to o er the chance of quite, calm and recuperation both at their Sunday services and on ursday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.30pm when they are open for personal prayer. ey look forward to seeing you. Trinity Church Service churches and follow the strict government guidelines for COVID-19. ‘Counselling Together’ is a registered charity and is very appreciative of the assistance and donations it receives. Donations are used exclusively to provide bursaries to support clients on low incomes. e service is open to those of all faiths or none. A PROBLEM SHARED… Zooming in with Hubble! e recent speaker evening held by Hythe and Waterside Rotary was on e Hubble Space Telescope. Rotarians, their families and friends were treated to a fascinating talk, via Zoom, given by Tony Bell, a member of Glossop Rotary Club. His presentation covered the historical development and events leading up to the launch of e Hubble Telescope. He explained the huge engineering and nancial aspects of the project and this included NASA videos of the launch of the Hubble as well as a wonderful selection of full colour images of many of the planetary and deep space objects viewed and recorded by Hubble and NASA. Tony went on to explain the thoughts on the future of the space telescope and the immense bene ts the Hubble has given the world of astronomy. During the pandemic Hythe & Waterside Rotary have continued to meet via Zoom every Monday and speakers or fun evenings are usually held monthly. The Hubble Space Telescope BE WELL IN YOUR WORLD Although Oakhaven’s drop- in Coates Centre is currently closed for all its usual activities, Oakhaven Wellbeing is still actively working to provide support to the communities across the New Forest, Waterside and Totton area with free virtual resources to help support wellbeing during these stressful times, and particularly if you are living with a life limiting illness, caring for someone, or coping with bereavement. You do not have to be known to Oakhaven as a patient. The popular wellbeing workshops run by Oakhaven’s Complementary erapy team continue via Zoom: ‘Learning to Relax’ over 3 sessions the team o ers insights into the bene ts of relaxation, what makes relaxation di cult, ways that complementary therapies may help and also a simple relaxation script. Each session ends with a guided relaxation. Tuesday 11th – Tuesday 25th May 3pm-4pm. Join the team for ‘Managing Insomnia Using Comp Therapy’ to look at what makes sleep di cult, useful aromatherapy essential oils and techniques which may improve sleep. e session ends with a guided relaxation. Wednesday 12th May - 10am-11.30am. Join the ‘Hand Massage’ session learn how to give yourself a simple hand massage treatment for self-care and the essential oils to use to help nourish your skin and boost your mood. You will need a small towel and some cream or oil for the massage (please note that this is not a certi cated workshop). Wednesday 19th May – 11am-12.30pm. New weekly sessions to learn Progressive Muscle Relaxation - a deep relaxation technique used to help control stress, anxiety and relieve insomnia and run weekly on Tuesdays from 10.15am- 10.35am .
