They are currently working on a Camellia walk which will add extra colour in the Spring. e volunteers hope to open the garden to the public once the COVID-19 Garden lovers of all ages will nd the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) ‘Garden Visitor’s Handbook 2021 (popularly known as e Yellow Book) invaluable when planning days out to take a peek behind other people’s garden gates. All over the country, thousands of private gardens are opened to the public on speci ed dates as part of the NGS scheme to raise funds for various nursing, caring and gardening charities it helps support. e so-called ‘bible’ of garden visiting and the key to secret gardens of England and Wales gives details of all the gardens taking part, together with location, a brief description of the garden, and dates when you can visit. e publication can be purchased for £13.99 online at www.ngs.org.uk As bulbs fade and herbaceous borders grow in leaps and bounds, it is now clear that summer is approaching. Sowing and planting out bedding can begin, depending on regional weather variations, and you can take so wood cuttings. It’s also time to get back into the lawn mowing regime, as the lawn will be loving the warmer temperatures this month brings Top 10 jobs this month: 1. Watch out for late frosts. Protect tender plants. 2. Earth up potatoes, and promptly plant any still remaining. 3. Plant out summer bedding at the end of the month (except in cold areas). 4. Water early and late to get the most out of your water, recycle water when possible. 5. Regularly hoe o weeds. 6. Open greenhouse vents and doors on warm days. 7. Mow lawns weekly. 8. Check for nesting birds before clipping hedges. 9. Li and divide overcrowded clumps of da odils and other spring- owering bulbs. 10.
