SPORT IN THE HERALD After a 2020 which saw very little cricket played at Jones Lane, Hythe & Dibden Cricket Club are back with a bang hoping to make 2021 a successful season for everyone both on and off the pitch! Centrepiece of the return of cricket is the FREE membership for all junior members, the return of All Stars Cricket and the brand new ECB initiative – Dynamo Cricket. Based at Jones Lane, Hythe & Dibden are a local community club with a welcoming family atmosphere and are seeking new members to join them. With a lovely clubhouse, they welcome associate members to join them over the weekends for a drink in the sun for just £10 per year. ey will continue to have four adult Saturday sides playing in various leagues across the south coast with the 1st team playing for its 3rd season in division three of the Southern Premier Cricket League. ey also play Sunday friendly games and are proud to be a founder member of the Tony Woodhouse Trophy which aims to introduce colts into adult’s cricket. ere is also a ladies team who play so ball cricket and are looking for new players. So ball cricket is about getting out and playing: maximum fun, minimum fuss. No pads, no hard ball, no heavy bat, no head-scratching rules. It’s a game for absolutely everybody, no matter your skill level, tness, or age. e junior section is a thriving hive of activity with teams playing at under 9’s, 11’s and 13’s. Training is on a Monday night at 6.30pm at Jones Lane, Hythe. All Stars Cricket is an initiative from the England and Wales Cricket Board providing a fantastic rst experience for children aged 5-8 years old where they’re guaranteed 8 weeks of jam-packed fun, activity, and skills development. Every child will receive a backpack full of goodies including a cricket bat, cricket ball and personalised t-shirt with your child’s name. From their experienced coaches, to safeguarding professionals and dedicated parents and committee members, they have everything they need to look a er, support, train and encourage you. ey have teams from U6’s right through to U16’s but they are particularly interested in recruiting U12’s. ey train at Gang Warily on Sunday mornings with a Wednesday night training session under the oodlights for di erent age groups, all within the current COVID-19 guidelines. Fawley RFC U12’s Need You! Hythe & Dibden Under-13’s (back in 2018) Anyone for Cricket? Bramshott Hill Seniors Results As morning broke on Monday 29th March 2021, strange things began to happen. Alarm clocks sounded and men awoke and started to gather their equipment. Shiny shoes, clean clubs and trolleys, winter clothing discarded, they made their way to the eld of battle. 41 contestants gathered at Dibden Golf Course ready for the rst game of golf in several months. e weather appeared to encourage them to play with glorious sunny conditions, the course had been prepared to an excellent standard by the MyTime Golf sta and the Seniors of Bramshott Hill Golf Club were more than ready to play. A er a long period without being able to play, players were not expecting any high scores but just the pleasure of being out on the course with like-minded company was reward enough. e game was a non-qualifying Stableford Game just to allow them to get back into the swing. A er 18 holes some decent scores (under the circumstances) were returned. e results are as follows: Division 1: 1st Kevin Rothwell , 2nd Robert Hallett , 3rd Henry Porter . Division 2: 1st Ronald Gooding, 2nd David Kellaway , 3rd Gerald Murphy . Along with the rest of the country they are hoping that the ‘Lockdowns’ are now over but this depends on everyone continuing to follow the safe COVID- 19 rules for some time yet. Be assured Bramshott Hill players will observe the required rules to enable them to continue playing. Please stay safe and enjoy the freedoms as they come along. Fawley Falcons FC are looking for players to join their U11’s Turbo’s team. If you are currently in year 6 and have a passion for football then they want to hear from you. With a fully quali ed FA level manager/coach you will train in a fun, safe and enjoyable environment. Training takes place on Saturday mornings at the QE2 Recreation Ground, Black eld, with matches on Sundays. Tottonians Rugby Club who are based in Water Lane Totton, are inviting people of all ages; from Year R (5 years old) to Senior Players, no matter if you’ve played before, your skill set or talent! Rugby is an inclusive game, for all abilities and ages. e Seniors (18 years+) train on a Tuesday and ursday, 7.30pm-9pm and Saturdays 2pm-4pm. e Colts (16-18 years) train on a Tuesday and ursday 7pm-8.30pm and the Juniors/ Minis (5-16 years) train on Sundays 10am–Midday, usually an hour or so (depending on age). e Under 16’s, 15’s and 14’s also train on Wednesday evenings from 6pm-7.30pm. e club are really keen to hear from anyone in their school year 10 (U15’s). Coaching is provided by England Rugby Union Quali ed Coaches, at all levels. ere is access to gym facilities, physio support and strength and conditioning advice. e club has its own clubhouse and a great social atmosphere.
