We had the perfect pony but nowhere to take it. It would be a whole year before we would be able to go to our rst show, or would it? The brain storming began. And then a brilliant idea came to us, if we couldn’t go to a show maybe we could bring the show to us and the idea of the ‘Lockdown Show’ online was born. We realised it wasn’t only us missing out on the showing fun, many of our friends and family wanted to get involved and the more we spoke about it the more the excitement grew. Rainbows have become a symbol of joy and hope since COVID-19, and we came up with the genius idea of spreading some of that joy and hope throughout our equine community by creating an incredibly special rainbow rosette. We approached a local rosette company who made the rainbow rosette a reality and they have become a trademark of our show. Many local businesses have been involved by either donating prizes for our grand prize draw or o ering sponsorship. In return we offer them advertising on our website and in our Facebook group and have had great feedback from local businesses who feel it has helped promote their products and services through these extremely di cult times. I myself have worked for the NHS for over twenty years as an Occupational erapist. Unfortunately, due to cancer treatment I have been unable to work for the last four years alongside my colleagues on the frontline, but the NHS has and always will be important to me. We agreed that all the proceeds for our rst show would be donated to our incredible NHS and we were proud to be doing something to help. Our 1st show raised over £1000! Show one was such a success and bought so much joy that we decided to continue. It became a new venture for me. Finally, I had a much needed productive role that I could manage around my treatment, whilst spreading a little lockdown happiness and raising much needed funds for charity. We continue to donate a proportion of the pro t to charity each month and to date have raised nearly £3,500 in total. The Lockdown Show continues to go from strength to strength and last month we had over six hundred entries. We are lucky to have had support frommany of the top judges and we o er a truly authentic online showing experience. We have a wonderful sense of community in our Facebook group, and we have something for everyone. My daughter and her lovely pony regularly take part and our perfectly perfect pony has lots of beautiful ribbons. We are currently planning show 9 and we are excited to see where it takes us. For details of how you can get involved and see all the charities supported by the show please visit: www. l ockdownshow. co.uk In March 2020 I bought my daughter a beautiful New Forest Pony. We had always dreamed of competing at the New Forest Show, and thought we had a perfect plan, but as quickly as our fun started it skidded to a halt with the arrival of COVID-19.
